Food Hunt: Xiang Wei Lou (享味楼) Restaurant, Kota Damansara
Dear All,
Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt and today ME & Alan had visited another newly opened outlet at The Strand Kota Damansara to try out the Bak Kut Teh. We are eagerly waiting to eat Bak Kut Teh although the weather is hot today afternoon. Introducing the Xiang Wei Lou (享味楼) Restaurant located at The Strand Kota Damansara.
We reach the restaurant at about 11.30am knowing the it starts business at 10.00am and they told me that the Bak Kut Teh is not ready and need to wait until 12.00pm. From the moment on, I felt so pissed off having to wait for 30 minutes before the food being served but luckily my Iphone helps to kill my bore. They should have served the Bak Kut Teh earlier and not asking the customer to wait since it's already opened for business. The customer service is very bad indeed where he/she does not smile at all and just passed us the menu. It really pissed me off very much but I know I have to be patient.
After looking at the menu, not only Bak Kut Teh served there but other food such as side orders prawns, fish, vegetables and meat as well but their speciality here is the Bak Kut Teh. We looked at the menu thoroughly and we taught that we would order a plate of vegetables but Alan claimed that the price is very expensive. We ordered a Bak Kut Teh for 2 pax (RM9.00 per pax) that comes with a rice (RM1.00 per plate) and a bowl of 'Yau Char Kwai' (RM4.00 per bowl). We ordered Herbal Tea as our drinks (RM4.00 per cup).
Now it's back to business time where we tried the Bak Kut Teh. Overall, we had a dissapointing meal today as the portion of the Bak Kut Teh is small and not enough for 2 persons to eat. It's more suitable for 2 girls to dine in but not for guys surely! The taste of the soup is quite mild and not much herbal taste as well. The portion of the meat meanwhile is very less considering 2 persons servings and it should have given more. The meat is fresh and the pork intestines as it's pretty soft as well but the meat is pretty hard and not so nice to chew. The 'Yau Char Kwai' tastes nice with some tenderness as well. The Herbal Tea taste is nice but it's slightly too sweet.
For the price we pay total bill RM32.00 for 2 persons is just fine but what I wanted to complaint is about the portion of 2 persons which I doubt really for 2 persons as I could see it's only for 1 persons indeed. The food are quite dissapointing overall too. Some of the menu dishes are very expensive and not worth the price we pay and for example is the Herbal Tea costs RM4.00 per cup and RM8.00 for a plate of small 'Choy Sum'. Considering the meat and the soup of the Bak Kut Teh, it has lost to many competitors out there and they should improved more to ensure they are able to compete with other competitors. I can see most of the people working there including the chef are not locals Chinese and from other races too. I would still recommend you to come over here and try out the meal but do not expect the food to be superb or very nice to try. Indeed, you may try other food besides Bak Kut Teh. Enjoy! MY RATING: 3/5 ; ALAN RATING: 2.5/5

This is really a terrible place to go to. Service is bad and most of all the food supposedly serve for 2 people is only enough for one. We ordered stewed pork with potato but turned out to be fried potato. So little pork.
Don't go to this restaurant....very bad
Hehe...thanks for the comments. I think is due to the management of the restaurant where they hired those foreigners. And yes, the portion is very small indeed. U bet!
