Gathering & Food: The Uma Balinese Restaurant, Kota Damansara

Dear All,

Tonight is a very special night as we gathered together for another special gathering especially to all my University Friends. Of course, such a long time that we did not meet since Chinese New Year Gathering and today finally we manage to gather together again to have a very special food that seldom we can find here in Malaysia. This gathering is organized by myself and a good turnover as well and special thanks to Yen Peng, May Low, Kimmy Chung, Chloe Nge, Mun Sai Kit, Mun Jing Kit & Jenny Wong who turned up today for this gathering. We went to The Uma Balinese Restaurant located at Kota Damansara and we are really amazed with the decorations over there. It's like you just entered Bali. Tell you more about it shortly. We reached the restaurant at 7.00pm sharp and we have booked a table for 8 pax.

The restaurant is cozy and clean while the decorations are simply irresistible. If you prefer to dine in Ground Floor, there are normal table and chairs with a much more cozy environment but if you prefer the Balinese style of sitting, then 1st floor is suitable for you as it's seating is like the Japanese style of sitting by putting your leg straight or bend it. We have looked into the menu and since we have 8 pax, we plan to order 2 sets of Paket which can cater 4 persons per Paket. We've ordered Paket A which consists of braised pork meat with sweet sauce, Balinese grilled half chicken, and grilled tuna in banana leaf, together with some condiments (minced fish satay, assam pork satay, Balinese Pork Sausage, hard boiled egg with sambal, mixed vegetables salad, stir fry long bean, and spiced potato fries). For Paket C, which consists of braised pork ribs with sweet sauce, Balinese grilled half chicken, and grilled tuna in banana leaf, together with some condiments (minced fish satay, assam pork satay, Balinese Pork Sausage, hard boiled egg with sambal, mixed vegetables salad, stir fry long bean, and spiced potato fries). There's individual sets as well but to be safe, you better order Paket sets just in case you cannot finish the meal, another 3 persons can help you out. For drinks ME & Kimmy had ordered the Jus Markisa (RM7.00) and it taste great with soothing passion fruit juice with lime and mint. Another refreshing choice and it's sweet & sour in taste and it's really nice and tasty.

Jus Markisa (RM7)

Nasi Kuning

Paket A (RM118)

Paket C (RM118)

The sets costs about RM118 which comes with a huge platter of food including pork, ribs, satay, vegetables, pork, eggs, fried chips as well as chilli sauce and sweet sauce and it simply looks very tempting too. It's only can cater 4 persons and since we have 8 persons, we ordered 2 sets (RM236). Please see photos for more information. The price overall is quite expensive based on the food quantity and the value of the food but one thing I have to admit that the food here is simply awesome. All of us here really enjoyed the Balinese Food and we have a good chat too. I would recommend you to come over here to try out their food as it's more delicious than the ones you find in Bali. This is admitted by some of our members here like Jenny Wong where she commented, the best Balinese Food is found at The Uma. The total bill came and it costs about RM317.00 (plus drinks) for 8 pax and per person we need to pay around RM40.00. Check out the full photos (about 68 photos on alexleow-kimmy.com Facebook page) and if you have not click the Like button, please support us. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5 ; KTC MEMBERS RATING: 4/5

Lifestyle: My Birthday Celebration

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

I would like to extend my gratitude to all of you as I am celebrating my birthday today and it was a wonderful day for me. I worked today but decided to take half day leave and then I went to Tropicana City Office Tower after my lunch to collect a prize that I've won from RED FM. Coincidentally, it can be considered as a birthday present for me. After that moment, I can't wait for tonight where Kimmy had decided to bring me for Japanese Food and she had chosen Rakuzen located at Desa Park City.

After that then the real ceremony began. After we went home, Kimmy's family greeted me Birthday Wishes and then we continue with the cake cutting ceremony. Although it's not a big cake but it's a very memorable ones. I would not believe that I've got a cake and Kimmy family gave me a surprise. I would like to take this golden opportunity to thank Kimmy's family for having this special occasion for me. The cake is a Burberry cake and it was bought from King's Confectionery. I make a wish after that wishing that I could make a lot of money and then have a smooth sailing year ahead and not forgetting that we could get married in 1-3 years time.

The drama does not ends there where I got a beautiful kiss from Kimmy and then she gave me a present. Guess what is the present? It was a beautiful shirt and I love it very much. Furthermore, it's my favourite color too which is Blue in color. It was a tremendous and simple birthday for me but overall it's a memorable one. Another challenging year for me ahead and I wish to accomplish my mission that I have wished for. Hope my dreams come true and to you too. Gambateh!

Food Hunt: Rakuzen Kitchen, Desa Park City, Kepong

Dear All,

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for sending me your birthday wishes for today. And in the same time since it's my birthday, I would also like to thank my darling Kimmy Chung as she treat me for tonight dinner at Rakuzen Kitchen located at Desa Park City in Kepong. We had a great time there celebrating my birthday. We reach the restaurant at about 7.45pm and there's a lot of people inside the restaurant but there's also some empty tables yet to be occupied. The service is very good where once we were shown to our table, they immediately provide us with the menu. We browse through the menu and it took us about 10 minutes to decide what to eat although the menu is simple but the price also we are considering as well.

Finally we've decided and ordered 1 plate of Ebikko Sushi ( 2 pcs) (RM6.00), Cranky Slim Maki (RM16.00), Unakyu (also known as Unagi) Temaki (RM10.00), California Temaki (RM8.00) and Tekka Maki (RM9.00). For the main course, I am the one one ordered while Kimmy only enjoy the sushi's. I've ordered the Yakinikujyu (Rice with beef) (RM26.00). We did order 2 glasses of Green Tea and it's Free Of Charge. It does not take very long for the food to arrive and it only takes about 5 minutes and it came. Wow! Amazing and since we are hungry! Burppp!

The Ebikko Sushi is really nice where it's very fresh indeed. The rice is really juicy and soft too. It's much more better than the ones we eat at Sakae or Sushi King. I have to admit that for the price we pay, it's really a difference. For the Cranky Slim Maki, it's also very delicious where it has a layer of unagi inside with the love shape. The presentation is really good and most importantly, it's very delicious indeed. About the Tekka Maki, this sushi presentation comes in pairs and it has a different taste and it's nice too. All the sushi made by the same rice and therefore the rice is really juicy and soft too. For the California Temaki, there's nothing special about it except the seaweed is pretty hard to bite else it was fine. The same goes to Unakyu Temaki. Most importantly, the ingredients made is fresh. For the main course, it's the Yakinikujyu (Rice with Beef set). It's a a rice set box that comes with a miso soup. On top the rice serves the beef slices and the portion is really huge and the beef comes with a big portion too. I can't believe that I ate a lot of beef today and I could not imagine that they gave me a lot of beef. Probably they cannot finish the beef and too less people order and they gave me a lot. My opinion only la! Thumbs up! The taste meanwhile is too good to describe and it's almost perfect. The rice is not too dry and it has a mild cheesy flavour inside it. The beef meanwhile is a must try as it's very fresh, juicy and tender as well. I tell you what, I had a satisfying meal together with Kimmy as well. Please see photos for the food and WARNING that the food would tempt you.

Ebikko Sushi (RM3.00 per piece)

Cranky Slim Maki (RM16.00)

California Temaki (RM8.00) & Unakyu Temaki (RM10.00)

Yakinikujyu (RM26.00)

Tekka Maki (RM9.00)
The price overall is quite expensive but for the quality of food we get and pay for I guess it's reasonable. For my theory, food is expensive is OK as long as it has a good quality. We have to pay about RM87.00 ( includes 10% service charge and 6% government tax) for this meal but I think both of us had a satisfying meal and nice green tea as well. I would fully recommend you to come over to any Rakuzen branch to try out the food that I've just introduced to you just now. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5

Leisure: Golden Screen Cinemas, Paradigm Mall

Dear All,

Last weekend, I managed to visit Paradigm Mall yet again and this time I would like to try out the new cinema which was being introduced inside Paradigm Mall. It was indeed a modern cinema. The 9-hall cinema located on the third floor of Paradigm Mall is also the first to introduce the 3D Glasses booth which allows for an easy glasses collection and drop-off point for those watching 3D movies. This cinema is also disabled friendly. The new cinemas have incorporated green concepts such as energy-saving LED lights, water saving fittings in the washroom and other sustainable features in the cinema.

The cinemas designs are inspired by the digital revolution in cinema technology and visuals depicting digital effects.GSC has also extended the foyer to include an outdoor balcony for corporate screenings. Moviegoers can enjoy a splendid movie experience as the cinema is introducing the Dolby 3D glasses. The interior of the cinema looks nice and lovely too. Besides, it looks like a high class cinema with nine halls, out of which six are digital halls. So do expect more digital 2D or 3D movies to be shown at GSC Paradigm Mall.

I have experience the cinema since day 3 of the opening operations where ME & Kimmy had watched Snow White and The Huntsman in Digital 2D. The surround system are fully equipped with the latest Dolby Digital 7.1 and the sound is very clear and crisp. The screen meanwhile is huge and the seating is very comfortable as well. I would rate this cinema a 5 star cinema with good seats and screen as well as the surround system. I would recommend you to come over here to try out the cinemas by watching either 2D or 3D movies. 2 words, "Simply Awesome!". Check out the photos as well. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

Food Hunt: Snowflakes, Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt. Today ME & Kimmy had eventually continue or journey of food and after our main dinner course, we walk a while and then proceed to have dessert at the mall. We have chosen Snowflakes located at Paradigm Mall. For your information, this is my first time trying out Snowflakes and I am very excited. We reached the restaurant at about 8.00pm and the crowd is pretty less considering it's dinner time and not dessert time. We manage to queue up and there's nobody at the queue at that time. There are a lot of dessert to choose from ranging from a bowl of dessert to their signature drinks as well.

If you are new to Snowflakes, let me tell you the rules to order. Firstly you need to choose your Series. There are 3 series to choose from ranging from Jelly Grass Series (RM6.50) (Option Hot or Cold),  Taroballs Series (RM6.50) and Soya Ice Series (RM6.50). In this case, ME & Kimmy had decided to try out the Soya Ice Series. Secondly, you need to choose the set of toppings. There are 5 set to choose from ranging from Set 1: Green Bean +Lotus Seed + Pearl, Set 2: Sweet Potato + Barley + Pearl, Set 3: Red Bean + Peanuts + Pearl, Set 4: Red Bean + Taro + Pearl, Set 5: Kidney Bean + Black Glutinous Rice + Pearl. In this case, ME & Kimmy had chosen Set 4: Red Bean + Taro + Pearl. It only costs RM6.50.

After that you are in the waiting list. They will give you a very cool device and we named it as a beeping UFO where you can first take your seat and the beeping UFO will beep with sound once it's ready for collection. Then you bring the beeping UFO together with you to redeem the order. This service also first of its kind in Malaysia and it's very special. It does not take very long for the dessert to arrive. The portion is big and satisfactory and we are amazed with the portion and the amount of ingredients on the dessert. It was tasty and based on the set we've ordered, the Soya is nice and just nice with slightly sweetness in it. The Red Bean given is fresh as well as the Taro. It also contains yam which is very fresh and delicious as well. The pearl would be a perfect finish to the whole bowl as it's simply nice to chew and juicy too. We love the set that we've ordered and we were not regret and would definitely come back again.

Beeping UFO + Snowflake Card

Soya Ice Series + Set 4: Red Bean + Taro + Pearl
With the price of RM6.50 per bowl, I would say it's very reasonable with the portion given and the given amount of ingredients at the dessert. I would strongly recommend you to any of the Snowflakes branch around the Klang Valley to try out as it's simply delicious. Again I would say that I would come back to try other flavour as well in future. Before I conclude, if you are new to Snowflakes, upon your purchase, the cashier will normally give you a Snowflakes Card for you to collect the chop and for every 10 chops, you will get a bowl for free. Also remember that do not go during peak hours especially weekends between 2.00pm - 6.00pm and after 8.30pm as it will be very crowded and you will have to wait for the long queue as well as hard to find a place to sit as well. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 (PERFECT) ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5 (PERFECT)
