Gathering & Food: Venezia Italian Restaurant, Taman Segar Cheras

Hello folks,

Welcome back to the edition of the New Year Eve Gathering which took placed at Venezia Italian Restaurant at Taman Segar in Cheras. It was attended by 10 of us including Me & Kimmy, Sai Kit & Chloe, Han Chung, Matthew, Sai Kit 2 Friend, Steve Chai & Kevin Kong. We reached the restaurant at about 8.30pm after there's not much traffic jam in the city just yet. It was barely dissapointing when we enter the restaurant because there's no place to sit because the place is entirely small. All the tables were occupied. I told the waitress that I've called for booking for 9 persons. After 9.00pm, we still did not get our tables yet until 9.15pm. Then we were provided by a 6 persons table as a temporarily because still the tables were all occupied. Finally we got the table to be joined together at 9.30pm as after joining the table, it can accomodate 9 of us. We were very frusfrated because although we do booking already, we still did not get our seat until 9.30pm. The waiter service was OK but the system (booking & table allocation was very poor).

After sitting down, we looked at the menu and there were lots of varieties to choose from pizzas to pasta's and speghetti's. Me & Kimmy meanwhile had ordered a mushroom soup, a pasta and a shared 3 pan of pizzas among Sai Kit & Chloe as well as 2 of Sai Kit's friend. We ordered Green Tea as our drinks. (Please see below). The mushroom soup was not so tasty and it was not enough sweet and enough of mushroom taste. For pizzas, it was just fine and pastas was too oily and not recommended to take. Overall the food was just average and not up to my expectations. I would not recommend you to this restaurant if you want real quality of Italian Food. Frankly speaking, Michealangelo (SOHOKL) is much more better than this restaurant and the pricing is almost the same. MY RATING: 3/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 3/5.

About others, they ordered various food and drinks (please see below). The feedback I get from them is the food was just average and not as tasty as expected. We got some recommendation from our friends and from the blogs saying that this restaurant is worth a try because it's tasty but unfortuntely the food aren't so tasty and great as expected. OTHERS AVERAGE RATING: 3/5.

We left the restaurant at about 11.15pm and head towards the UE3 building near Taman Miharja to catch the glimpse of fireworks display where we can actually get a great view of KLCC, Times Square as well as KL Tower. There are splendid fireworks display after 12 midnight and that's it. We wish everyone Happy New Year 2010.

News: Redemption points can be used to pay for credit card service tax

PETALING JAYA: Banks and card issuers are allowed to enter into arrangements with card holders to use redemption/reward points or rebates they earn through using their cards for the payment of the RM50 service tax, the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) said on Monday. The association also said in a statement that debit and petrol cards do not fall under the purview of the RM50 service tax imposed on credit or charge cards.

“The other cards (exempted) include closed community charge cards used at work places, schools and clubs as well as loyalty cards and e-money such as Touch ‘n Go,” it added. The ABM also said that the service tax would be collected by banks and other card issuers from credit or charge card holders and paid to the Customs and Excise director-general. “In this respect, the amount of service tax payable will be set out in the card holders’ monthly statement separately,” it said. The association added that the tax becomes chargeable at the time when the credit or charge card is issued, on the anniversary date or upon renewal.

The tax will not be charged for replacement cards issued due to lost or spoilt cards or fraud. In Budget 2010, it was announced that starting from Jan 1, a service tax of RM50 a year would be imposed on each principal credit or charge card and RM25 a year on each supplementary card. For enquiries on the service tax on credit and charge cards, call the ABM toll-free hotline 1-300-88-9980 from Monday to Friday or e-mail banks@abm.org.my. Source: The Star Malaysia 28/12/09

My Comments: Today is Christmas Day and our movie marathon continues where ME & Kimmy had decided to go to TGV in Kepong to watch the movie Alvin & The Chipmunks 2. It had been ages that I haven't been to TGV cinemas to watch movie after I already got the GSC Credit Card. The screen in TGV Cinemas are twice as big as GSC cinemas but the seats of GSC are much more better and confortable than TGV. OK! Let's go straight to the movie comments. As expected, this movie does not dissapoints me rather. I was expecting a full time of laughter and YES! This movie has all the requirements whereby there were fun for the whole family. It was very funny throughout the whole movie as the chracter of Alvin, Simon and Theodore. The storyline meanwhile was pretty simple and nothing so special bout it. Since this is a laughter and cater for childen movie, the storyline doesn't that important at all as long as the kids understands the story of it. A very good recommendation for movie goers who loves to laugh all the time and I believe 100% of the movie goers would love to watch laughter movies right? Haha! Enjoy yourselves during this holiday season with pretty much laughter and jokes! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

My Comments: Merry Christmas! It's Christmas Eve and ME & Kimmy had decided to go to GSC 1 Utama to catch the very new movie released today. It was a fully packed cinemas because most of the movie goers would take this opportunity to watch the movie of their choice including this movie The Treasure Hunter at night. Our movie time is at 10.15pm and the movie ended at about 12 midnight. Let's go straight to the movie comments. Before I watch this movie, I did have a very high expectations towards this movie and guess what it was pretty dissappointing as well. The action was moderate and the storyline was not fantastic at it seems because it was just a meaningless story when they wanted to look for the treasure city. Jay Chou acted pretty matured in this movie and he did shows his enthusiasm but in the way he was sometimes too 'cool' in this movie and over react. This is the first time that I've seen Lin Zhi Ling acted in the movie but still there's a lot of improvement need to be done. Her acting was seemingly not matured enough as well. The joker for this movie of course goes to Eric Tsang as he did a very good job in leading this movie with his outstanding jokes and I like him throughout the movie. Without him, the movie seems to look a bit dull. Overall, this movie I believe does not lived up to expectations and I would not recommend to you to watch it but if you have time or free time to be exact, you can try and watch this movie but do not give yourself too high expectations. Cheers & Merry Christmas. MY RATING: 3/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 2.5/5

My Comments: Welcome to the world of fantasy at GSC 1 Utama! Well, YES! This is a truly comic based fantasy movie that caters for these movie lovers. Today ME & Kimmy had watched Storm Warriors II here. Well, in the first place, I was pretty afraid and worried that this movie would dissapoints me because most of my friends who watched this movie gives me a very bad rating. But everything's change when I watch this movie. It wasn't very bad at all and it was totally amazing. The graphics and the movement was pretty energertic and very nice also that makes me keep tight on my seat while watching. I would give 5/5 for the graphics and movements of this movie as Hong Kong movie had moved into a new era of mass improvement on its graphics and movements. The storyline was sometimes hanging by a moment and doesn't really impress me but I believe the reason they do this is because they will be Storm Warriors III coming up. Ekin Cheng & Aaron Kwok as well as Simon Yam stole the limelight most of the time during the movie and I was impressed with their acting as well. A must watch movie of the year 2009 for chinese movie. The dialog was pretty less in the 1 hour 50 mins movie as it caters more into action. 80% of the movie was filled with movements while another 20% caters for the dialog only. Overall, ME & Kimmy was very satisfy with the movie and we would give full marks for this one. For those who said it was a very bad movie, there must be a reason behind (or maybe different from the novel) for saying so but for me I would recommend you to go and see it and you would enjoy it! :) MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

Synopsis:

Woody Harrelson star in the horror comedy "Zombieland," which revolves around a mismatched pair of survivors who find friendship and redemption in a world overrun by zombies. Harrelson plays one of the men, a zombie fighter named Albuquerque.

_____________________________________________________

My Comments: It was a unplanned situation where me & my brother Alan had decided to catch a movie at GSC Tropicana City Mall after on a Saturday night, we do not know what to do. So, without any hesitation, we have chosen ZOMBIELAND as our preferred movie choice this time around. We manage to make the decision at about 6.30pm and the movie time is about 8.45pm. OK! Let's go straight to the movie comments. Laughter is best described about this movie because it contains 80% of total laughter and fun. It should be a horror movie but it seems it's a comedy cum horror movie which doesn't really impress after all. The storyline was pretty messy and sometimes it doesn't makes sense as well. I don't really amazed or impressed about the storyline at all but it is still acceptable. Only the laughs saves the rating of this movie and if you like comedy movie more than horror, this movie is just for you. Don't expect too much (because already expected the movie will be like this) bout this movie and if you got nothing to do, perhaps you can give it a try and watch this movie or you are having a hypertension on your life, this movie will guarantee gives you the best medicine to cure you too! MY RATING: 3.5 / 5 ; ALAN RATING: 3/5

SEA Games: Malaysia beats Vietnam 1-0 in final

VIENTIANE: Malaysia finally ended its 20-year gold drought in the SEA Games men’s football competition, when it defeated Vietnam 1-0 in the final played at the Main Stadium of the National Sports Complex in Vientiane on Thursday.

The National Under-23 boys, who came here as non-medal prospects, pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the Games to win the gold. Malaysia last won the football gold in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in 1989, with a 1-0 victory over Singapore. Vietnam's Mai Xuan Hop (right) weeps as the Malaysians celebrate their 1-0 victory in the Laos SEA Games football final. Mai's own goal proved to be the 'decisive winner' for the Malaysians. - AP Photo

The ‘winner’ came courtesy of an own goal by Vietnam’s Mai Xuan Hop’s in the 84th minute of a toughly-fought final. The football gold medal was also Malaysia’s 40th gold medal in Vientiane.
The victory was all the more sweeter as the Malaysians had lost 1-3 to Vietnam in a group match on Dec 6. Earlier, the young Malaysians had knocked out defending champions Thailand 2-1 in the group stage to win a place in the semi-finals. Then in the last four, they downed Laos 3-1 in front of a sell-out 20,000 fans. Source: The Star Malaysia 17/12/09
________________________________________________________

My Comments: Finally after 20 years of waiting, Malaysian football finally found its pride and it had been proved on tonight match as they had finally won the Sea Games Gold Medal. It was indeed a proud performance from the young Malaysian side who did very well in their last 3 matches beginning when they beat Thailand. I believe many people will be very shocked and happy to see the results because normally Malaysia will not go away as champions but tonight is indeed their night again. I would like to take this golden opportunity to congratulate the Malaysian team for winning the Gold Medal and my advise was don't be just too happy or too proud about winning the sea games medal and the team should continue to improve games by games and try to show maturity in every match. There's still a long journey to go and we hope our success does not stop here only. Gambateh! Our dear National Team! :)

World News: Thousands flee Philippines volcano

Thousands of people living near the slopes of Mount Mayon in the central Philippines have fled their homes after the volcano spewed lava and sent ash plumes high into the air. Soldiers and police oversaw the evacuation around the Mayon volcano on Tuesday, amid concerns that an eruption could occur at any moment. "After the series of ash puffs and ash explosions of 1,000 metres [high], we cannot rule out a major explosion," Cedric Daep, the head of the disaster relief operations in the eastern Bicol region, said.

Daep said the authorities aimed to evacuate nearly 50,000 people from villages within eight kilometres of the volcano by Thursday. Volcanologists raised the alert level on the 2,460-metre high volcano to two levels below eruption on Monday after lava was seen dripping from the crater. However, the national volcanology institute also said Mayon could yet calm down and might not necessarily erupt.

Frequent eruptions

Officials said it is unlikely that villagers would be able to return home before Christmas, the biggest holiday of the year in the mainly Catholic country. "It's 10 days before Christmas. Most likely people will be in evacuation centres, and if Mayon's activity won't ease down we will not allow them to return to their homes,'' Nunez said. Mayon is the most active of 22 volcanoes in the Philippines, having erupted more than 50 times in the last four centuries. Residents in Albay province are used to moving away from Mayon, which spewed ash last month and prompted some villages to flee. The last time the volcano erupted was in 2006. Mayon's most destructive eruption came in 1841 when lava flows buried the town of Cagsawa and killed more than 1,200 people. The country lies on the volatile "Ring of Fire", a belt of volcanoes circling the Pacific Ocean that is also prone to earthquakes. Source: Al-Jazeera News 15/12/09

________________________________________________________

My Comments: It was yet another epic of a minor 2012 happening this time in Philippines. The Volcano had become active and anytime ready to abrupt. Perhaps, the GOD wants to punish mankind on earth for massive destruction as shown on the movie 2012. Well, what we hope that everything will be back to normal and we are able to cope with the disaster surrounding us. To those who are staying near to the volcano, do listen to the authorities there and evacuate immedietely to prevent something bad happening. Life Must Go On......

News: Supervisor killed in gas explosion

MALACCA: The much-anticipated opening of the largest AEON Jusco outlet in the country in Jalan Legenda, Bachang, here is likely to be postponed following a gas explosion that killed a 25-year-old supervisor and injured 16 others. The explosion is believed to have occurred at the food court section on the ground floor of the three-storey complex just before 1pm yesterday when workers and tenants were busy making final preparations for Thursday’s grand opening.

The force of the blast blew a 2m-wide hole in the building’s wall, showering glass and debris over a 25m radius and causing a small fire. Firemen from the Kubu station, who arrived six minutes after receiving a distress call, found two injured victims lying outside the building. Intensive damage: The glass and ceiling panels of this restaurant were completely shattered by the explosion. Tiau See Peing, a supervisor from Batu Pahat at the Old Town White Coffee, was found dead with a neck wound caused by flying debris. Other victims were pulled out alive from the rubble. State fire department operations deputy director R. Ezhumalai said the blast is believed to have been caused by a gas leak when workers were testing gas meters from the centralised liquid petroleum gas system.

“Several survivors mentioned there was a smell of gas shortly before the blast,” he said at the scene, adding that the injuries and damage came mostly from the blast and flying debris.
“We are still investigating to determine the exact location of the blast and what may have caused it.” At press time, seven victims were reported to have suffered serious injuries while three are in critical condition. They have been warded at the Malacca Hospital.
Six other victims received outpatient treatment. Meanwhile, state Human Resources Committee chairman Datuk Yaakub Md Amin said the Department of Occupational Safety and Health had been directed to investigate the blast, adding that investigations would focus on whether the contractors had followed safety measures. Source: The Star Malaysia 14/12/09

_________________________________________________________

My Comments: Well, we have been hearing accidents happening again and this time a different news which is the mall explosion. What have the authorities done is causing this big mistake? Although only 1 lives claimed staked this time and 16 others injured, the authorities must made responsible for this incident and please sentence them to death after failing to ensure their workers safety in their workplace. There is no excuses otherwise many lives will be claimed in future. A sad news but Life Must Go On......

Lifestyle: Finally got my Pasport!

Finally I've got my first ever passport in my life after 28 years. No joke, I never owned a passport before this and finally today 11th December 2009 is a historical day for me perhaps. Haha! Funny isn't it? Today I step in the Immigration Department at 8.45am located at Jelapang in Ipoh. Then it took me about 3 hours to complete the whole process with something funny happening too while applying for the passport.

Let me just share some with you all. I have to wait for about 1 hour before it's my turn and after I step into the counter, the immigration officer asked about my photo. He asked me how long already is this photo? (It seems I don't look like the same with my photo). Well, I told him recently only and he laugh at it. Duhhh! Doesn't it looks the same Mr. Officer! Still, it managed to go through and being processed. After that, I head towards the cafeteria for a short breakfast break before heading back to the Immigration Office to collect my passport an hour after. Then, when I reach the collection counter, I handed the resit to the guy and he told me "Nak buat collection sekarang ke?" "Sekarang Pukul Berapa?". He laughed out loud and ask me to wait. In my surprise, in less than 5 minutes, the counter already call me and my passport is ready for collection. I thanked him for his excellent service and he smiled.

So, I have got my passport already and I am ready to FLY! For those, who haven't get their passport and ready to fly, get yours now at your nearest Immigration Offices now! Happy Holidays! :)

He befriends his father, who is a young man then. FAN puts TSZ up in his place, where TSZ comes to know the stingy KO SHAN CHEUN (John Chiang), who runs a noodle stall, the shrewish landlady TAM LAN CHING (Gigi Wong), the argumentative CHING LAN FUN (Shirley Yeung), who later becomes his sweetheart, and LEUNG PIN PIN (Nancy Wu), who comes from a rich family. TSZ is always abusing and offending people. Other tenants, especially corrupt sergeant NGAU CHING WING (Yuen Siu Cheung), hate him very much. Except for FAN, who always defends him and even later introduces him a job at a department store. In the 60’s now, TSZ however is as flamboyant as when he is in the 21st century. He finds FAN being too old-fashioned and kind-hearted. He almost makes other tenants homeless once, and he tries to destroy FAN and SO FUNG NI’s (Myolie Wu) relationship. Later when he realizes his wrong doings, he is shocked to know that.. RATING: 5/5

RATING: 5/5

Leisure: Looking Forward To Trip To Bali, Indonesia

Hi All,

Welcome back folks. I am back again for my blogging time after a week being so quiet on board. Well, this time I am pleased that I am going for a trip in merely 3 months from now to Bali. My trip will be from 09 March - 12 March 2010. In fact, I would be extremely happy to be in Bali because this is my first time going overseas (outside Malaysia) after 28 years old. I've also heard feedback from many people saying that Bali is a very nice place to visit based on the beautiful beaches and its nature beauties. Besides, Bali also famous for its temples which mostly stand near the sea. Amazing isn't it?

I would like to thank AirAsia for providing this promotion and after some comments given from my close friends, they said the price is pretty reasonable and worht for a visit. Even a 4 Days 3 Nights trip would be a tight one but I believe it would be also an enjoyable trip because I have planned which place that I wanted to visit and I strongly believe that I have enough time for it. After a week of frustration for me this week because a lot of obstacles need to overcome before me & Kimmy finally agreed on this trip (e.g. financial, time consumption etc). So, without talking so much, I am really looking forward to this trip and guess what before going, I need to prepare myself a passport (paiseh lah, because I never owned a passport before after 28 years old).

Don't forget to catch my blog from time to time as I will update my blog most probably after coming back from this trip because I will not bring my laptop over there. For those who went to Bali before, I would really hope that you could give your suggestions to me based on the trip and feedback to me via e-mail, telephone or my facebook too. Thanks so much and if you guys are going for a trip too, enjoy yourselves yeah! Adios! :)
