Malaysia News: Explosion rips through Empire Gallery, four hurt

A view of Empire Gallery Subang after an explosion early this morning ripped through a large portion of the mall. — Picture by Choo Choy May
SUBANG JAYA, Sept 28 — Four people were hurt in an early morning explosion at the Empire Gallery shopping mall here, which was heard from as far away as Bangsar.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with police, ambulances and the fire brigade still on the scene.

Police tracker dogs were also present, as were Fire and Rescue Department personnel from stations across Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Damansara and Puchong to investigate the incident.

Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar told reporters at the scene that the blast was believed to have started in the basement and involved a gas pipeline.

“We have yet to determine the cause of the blast but damage is extensive, affecting the parking lot and many outlets on the basement level and even the ground floor,” he said.

“Our forensics team is still investigating. We have not been able to enter certain parts of the mall . . . the damage is too bad and the areas are sealed off.”

He confirmed that a distress call was received at 3.45am concerning the explosion at the mall, which is at the entrance of Subang Jaya from the Federal Highway.

Zainal Rashid added that four people — two security guards and a Chinese couple — were injured during the blast, sustaining minor scrapes and bruises.

Rescue workers are still combing the basement in search of more possible victims.

The two guards were initially trapped in the basement, but have since been rescued and sent to a hospital to treat their injuries. They were identified as K. Surendra Kris, 33, and Chrring Dawak Sepa, from Nepal.

The couple, sales executives Daryl Chua, 27, and his girlfriend Hibbie Tan, 23, were taken to hospital in an ambulance but have since been discharged.

Nearly the entire stretch of the front portion of the newly-built mall was blown out, damaging a number of cafes, restaurants and clothing stores including Tangs and Starbucks Coffee.

Chua told reporters that he was walking with his girlfriend to an parking payment station a few steps from Starbucks when the explosion occurred about 3.30am.

“We were at La Bodega earlier for dinner and then we were just hanging out outside my car and talking," he said.

“Just as we were heading to the Autopay, there was a loud ‘boom’, like in the movies. I thought it was a bomb.”

Chua said he was “literally lifted off the ground” and thrown sideways several metres from the blast, lightly grazing both his arms.

The sound of breaking glass, falling debris and metal, and sirens broke the earlier silence, he said, leaving him in a momentary state of confusion and panic.

“And then the flames came up. It was all over, the entire front of the mall was razed. I thought I was going to die,” he said.

When the scene calmed slightly, Chua said he carried Tan, who had sprained her leg, to safety and noticed passers-by and nearby residents rushing to the scene.

His car, a black Volkswagen Golf GTI, was severely damaged.

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim tweeted this morning and prayed for the safety of the residents nearby.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh was also there, he added.

The shopping mall opened last year.

Yeoh told The Malaysian Insider she scrambled to get there after receiving a message on the Twitter micro-blogging service around 3am.

“The four injured have been taken to the hospital,” she said. "One broke his leg, apparently."

“The damage [to the building] is extensive. All of the lower floor all the way up to the second floor.”

The cause of the explosion was still not known, she said.

Food Hunt: Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, Tropicana City Mall

Yo,

Welcome back to yet another dinner hunt here at Tropicana City Mall. It was a great pleasure for ME & Kimmy once again to introduce to you the best food in town. This time, we wanted to eat Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks and we reached the restaurant at about 6.30pm and the tables are almost fully occupied because there's limited seats as well. But we managed to find ourselves a seat too.

I've ordered the Ricebox Set (RM10.50) which comes with drinks which I have selected V-Soy Soya Bean. For Kimmy, she ordered the Mee Sua (RM6.50). We've also ordered additional Crispy Chicken (RM6.50) too. Since it's a self-service restaurant, we have to queue up to order and it does not take a longer time to queue up too and it took about 5 minutes for the food to be served ready. The Ricebox Set was nice especially the crispy chicken where you can choose no, mild or very spicy depends on your choice. For this I've chosen mild spicy and it was just nice too. It comes with some tofu and rice and on top of it is the crispy chicken. The crispy chicken that we ordered separately was also very nice and this one is also mid spicy as well. Last but not least is the Mee Sua where the bowl is just nice for Kimmy (girl I assume) but the portion is simply not enough for me. The taste was very nice and it's pretty sour and a bit of sweet taste too but it suits the overall taste. I like the taste too as I tried some.

The price meanwhile was pretty reasonable. The total bill came and it costs us about RM23.50 and it's pretty filling too. I would recommend you to come over to try out the Ricebox Set and the Mee Sua as it was tasty. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

My Comments: It was lovely Sunday evening where ME & Kimmy had visited Tropicana City Mall for some shopping as well as to watch movie. We had planned this earlier on and have decided to watch an animated movie Cars 2 and it's almost going to taken off the cinemas soon. Well, this movie talks mostly about cars and it's suitable for kids on the character side but overall it suits adults more as it talks about cars mainly engines and the brand of cars. I doubt kids can understand those unless they are well trained with cars lessons. Hehe! Well, overall this movie is a funny and fun movie to be enjoyed by the whole family. Everyone will learn a good lesson towards this movie and of course will laugh off your seats too. Surprisingly, the graphics was perfect and it looks very real especially the scenes of London and United States. Just can't really believe now cars can talk too buy hey! Who cares as this is an animation movie for all walks of life to watch it. I would recommend you to watch this movie as this is a good movie especially if you are a big fan of cars as you can see the cars racing on the track too and it's fun to watch it. With the voices of Owen Wilson and Michael Caine, this movie promises to be a hit and you will never regret watching it. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

Food Hunt: Black & White Station Cafe, Pandan Indah

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt and it's a Saturday night. Me & Kimmy had to go all the way to Pandan Indah at Cheras to find a restaurant where I have discount on the food over there. And yes, it's Black & White Station Cafe located at Pandan Indah. We reached there quite late about 8.15pm considering the jam that dragged me throughout the MRR2 stretch. It does not dampen out spirit to locate new food and finally we had reached there. The restaurant was not packed and there were pretty average people dine in the restaurant. We were immediately served with the menu and it took us about 5 minutes to look at the menu. Without any hesitation, both of us ordered Western Food as our main course and Mushroom Soups as our appetizer. For drinks, we've shared the Rose Tea Pot and for desserts, we've ordered a cup of Ice-Cream as our appetizer.

It does not take long for the food to be served in front of our table. I've ordered the Grilled Fish Chop with Black Pepper Sauce (RM6.50) while Kimmy ordered the BBQ Chicken Chop (RM11.50). The Grilled Fish Chop comes with a few salads, some spaghetti and a small portion of french fries. It was very nice especially the black pepper sauce that was surrounding the fish chop. I love the taste but I basically think the portion is very small and it might not be enough for big eaters. For Kimmy's BBQ Chicken Chop also comes with a few salads, some spaghetti and a small portion of french fries. The BBQ sauce was also fantastic and nice though. I've tried some and I felt it's nice too. Thumbs up for both dishes although the portion is pretty small.

The Rose Tea (RM4.30) is served by packet and it can served 2 persons. Besides what impressed me is that they did provide a glass of honey where you can add honey into your cup of rose tea too. The rose tea comes with the pot and you can refill up to 2 times only. The taste was normal but after adding the honey, it taste much better. The Mushroom Soup (RM6.90) was also nice with the mushroom taste is pretty obvious and it's rich in taste. Both of us love it too. Last but not least is the Ice-Cream (RM6.90) that served as our dessert. There's 2 scoop of Ice Cream (Chocolate & Vanilla flavour) that comes with 2 pieces or Oreo on top of it. The taste was nice too.

Overall, the price is pretty average and the portion is pretty small but the food quality is there and nice. The bill came and it costs us about RM38.00++ including 10% Service Tax. Based on all the dishes that we've ordered, all ratings had been very satisfying and we love the food as it does not disappoint us although we need to drive all the way from PJ/Kepong to Pandan Indah, Cheras to enjoy the food. The price is almost same as those cafes but it's slightly cheaper than those branded cafes like Old Town, Papparich. I would recommend you to come over to this place to try out the food over here if you do not mind the price. Besides they served Western Food, they also served Chinese cuisines as well. Free WIFI is also provided here without any password. Enjoy! MY RATING: 4.5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4.5/5

Food Hunt: Kaeru Froggie Milk Snack House (青蛙撞奶菓子坊), Kepong

Hello Everybody!

It's the weekend once again and yes! Without any hesitation, we are back again for yet another edtion of Food Hunt but in this section, we are going to introduce to you some desserts where you enjoy especially during the hot weather. Well, you still can consume this in cold weather though. Don't get me wrong! And if you are bubble milk tea lover, this restaurant is a place to be.

We reach Kaeru Froggie Milk Snack House at about 6.00pm and there's not much people in the restaurant knowing the it's going to be dinner time and it will be less people already. Once we stepped into the restaurant, we had trouble selecting the drink we want because there's too many choices already and we only wanted to try one only. Finally we have chosen the Bubble Milk Tea with Extra Mango Pudding. It was originally priced at RM5.50 but somehow I get cheaper though because of discount coupons.

For milk lovers, this is simply fantastic for you because it's nice and it's not too sweet. I can feel like this milk tea also suits those who does not really like Milk Tea because the milk taste was not so strong and it was just nice. After drinking it, you will not feel undigested stomach and you will feel like normal. You can even take your dinner or lunch after that. No worries! I hope you understand what I mean. I would recommend you to this small little restaurant and it's wroth of money. The price is RM5.50 per cup but I would say it's very tasty with extra pearl given too. Besides selling bubble milk tea, this restaurant also sells different kind of snacks from Japan, Taiwan & Korea too. For more information, do log on to their website at http://mykaeru.wordpress.com/. Food Hunt: Delifrance Cafe & Bistro, Mid Valley Megamall

Bravo guys & girls!

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt on a lovely Sunday evening. Hope you folks are still doing fine and hope you enjoyed the food that both of us introduced so far. Do leave some comments on my blog ya! Thanks so much first! By the way, on a lovely Sunday evening, we went to Mid Valley Megamall for a walk and we manage to shop until we drop. We bought a lot of things and we are very satisfied with it. After watching movie, we've decided to go for yet another food adventure. This time during our visit to Mid Valley, we have decided to dine in Delifrance Cafe & Bistro.

We reached there around 7.00pm and the crowd had started to build up as there are still available tables for us to choose from. We sat down and immediately we were served with the menu. We browse through the menu and it took us about 10 minutes to decide what to eat as mostly they served western bakery meal as well as spaghetti as well too. I've ordered Beef Bolognese Spaghetti (RM15.90) while Kimmy ordered Chicken Bolognese Spaghetti (RM14.90) and for drinks both of us ordered 2 glasses of Mango Sjora Drinks (RM5.90 each) and a glass of Sjora Pineapple Drinks (RM5.90). We've also decided to try the Seafood Sandwich (RM9.00) as we ordered this as well.

It took us about 5 minutes to wait for the food and the service is very good indeed although the restaurant is pretty crowded that time. We can see the efficiency of the waiter and waitress serving us and it was very good indeed. The Chicken Bolognese Spaghetti was slighly salty but still acceptable and overall the sauce was nice too. The same goes to the Beef Bolognese Spaghetti. The portion of the spaghetti's are both pretty average but I can bet for big eaters, this meal does not cater enough for you. Both plates also comes with 2 pieces of garlic bread as well. Luckily we did order a side meal which is the Seafood Sandwich and this is very good indeed. The bread was very soft and tender while the seafood balls portion is pretty big as well and it was nice too. I can smell tuna on top of the seafood balls. Both of us love the bread and the seafood balls and we vowed to come back again for this in future. The sjora drink for mango and pineapple is very nice indeed. For the price we pay, it does not disappoint us as we can taste fresh mango and pineapple taste. It was tasty as it was not too sweet either.

For the price, I would say it will be definitely expensive and it's not so worth it. But if you come here for the quality of the food, then you are in the right direction. With 1 meal for 2 persons plus a side dish, it costs about RM50.00++ and the portion is just average. The same goes to the bread and the spaghetti as well. For big eaters, it's not recommended unless you come here during tea time just to eat for fun. Well, for me, I have a special discount coupons and my dine in here is just RM17.00 and it's much more worth it. Overall, this restaurant serves really quality food and I would recommend you to come over here to try out the food (maybe once in a while) by not looking at the price. I bet you will love it too. Enjoy your weekend folks! MY RATING: 4/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5

Cinema Movie: Johnny English Reborn

Release Date: 15 September 2011
Language: English
Subtitle: Info Not Available
Genre: Comedy
Running Time: 1 Hour 43 Minutes
Director: Oliver Parker
Cast: Rowan Atkinson, Gillian Anderson, Rosamund Pike, Dominic West, Pierce Brosnan

Synopsis:

The intrepid, idiot British spy Johnny English is back in a new adventure.

_________________________________________________________

My Comments: With the synopsis not talking much about the introduction of this movie, let me tell you a little bit about this movie. This movie basically talk about Johnny English, whose mission needs to track down Vortex, a secret mission of killing the country presidents and he needs to stop this from happening. Can Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) stop this secret mission from happening?

I watched this much anticipated movie at GSC Mid Valley today and of course, the movie was full. A lot of people watched it today and I guess many people came out smiling on their faces and in the same time many people will be talking about this movie. As for me, I have the same feeling too. It was a 105 minutes of action packed as well as jokes in between movie and it was simply fantastic. I guess all of you have watched Mr. Bean character before on television and this time he does his part too on some silly acts in the movie that will makes its patrons laughing all the way.

Not only that, can you imagine with his so called careless and dumb acts, he was selected to be the secret agent to bust the secret mission called Vortex where this group is responsible to kill the presidents. You would imagine that there will be lots of laughter and how his acts would sometimes make sense and he's quite smart too in this movie at times. I would say it's really special to see him acted as a secret agent. Overall, if you love Mr. Bean drama, then you will simply love this and I guarantee you that you will laugh off your seats. I would recommend you to watch this movie no matter what and do spend some time releasing your stress in the cinemas as this would be a good movie for you to watch. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

Food Hunt: Mojo Upstairs, SS2 Petaling Jaya

Bravo folks!

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt and today ME & Kimmy had visited SS2 after quite some time we did have lunch and dinner together for such a long time here. Today we had visited Mojo Upstairs located at SS2 during lunch break. Normally the reason we seldom come here is that it's hard to find parking here even though it's Saturday or Sunday but it was otherwise on a holiday Friday. We manage to find parking after a short while. We reach Mojo Upstairs at about 1.45pm and there's only 1 table occupied. It was very less people today but I've heard that it was packed during lunch break as it has a lot of lunch promotions too.

We sat down on a reserved table that I reserved a day earlier and we were immediately served with a menu. It does not take long for us to look at the menu and the food choices are pretty moderate as I've ordered Chicken Schnitzer Chop (RM18.50) while Kimmy ordered Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce (RM12.50) and Garlic Bread (RM5.90). For drinks, I've ordered Ice Blended Mango Mania (RM6.90) and Kimmy ordered Melon Milk Tea (RM5.90). We even ordered Banana Split Ice Cream (RM8.90) as our desserts as well. Bear in mind that the prices shown above is a non-promotional price and the restaurant reserves the rights to change the pricing for promotion purposes anytime.

Let's kick off with the reviews of the food and overall the food is excellent. I did not expect the food to be this best as I only expect it's good or above average. The Chicken Schnizer Chop was one of the best I've ever ate. The chicken was then covered with lots of rich cheese and it was tasty too. The cheese flavour is there too and it was great. The chicken served was very fresh although it was fried. Kimmy tried mine and also said it was nice. Thumbs up to this meal. For Kimmy's Chicken Chop Mushroom Sauce with Garlic Bread, it was just average. The chicken served was also fresh but the mushroom gravy was a little bit too salty but still nice and both of us did enjoy the chicken chop too. We can still taste the mushroom taste as well. For drinks, the Ice Blended Mango Mania was great too. It was not too sweet and it was rich in mango taste as well. I simply love the drinks and the main course too. For Kimmy's Melon Milk Tea, it was great too. Although it's not suitable to order while you are having your main course especially chicken chop as it will make your appetite a bit affected because it was sweet and indigestible. For the Banana Split Ice Cream Dessert, it was simply nice and good too. Although they are not using a high quality ice cream, but the taste is still there and it was nice too. It was just nice to cool us down during a hot weather.

The price meanwhile is very expensive if you dine in without promotional price and it costs around RM50++ for a meal. But for me, I've got discounts from coupons and it does not affect me as well. Well, you may dine in during lunch hours as their price is slightly cheaper about RM10.00++ roughly and do also look out for their monthly promotions as well to give you more cheaper price and more options to dine in. If you don't mind of the price, I would fully recommend you to this restaurant as it serves high quality food as it was nice and the environment is very cozy as well. You can feel the 50 to 60's environment feel while dine in and it's air conditioned. You may also have the option to sit outside too with open air. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5
