TVB Variety Show: 43rd TVB Awards Presentation 2010 – Winning List

Finally, it’s the night that the most worthy TVB artists would be honoured with the most prestigious awards of Hong Kong in film industry based on drama category. Many were seen attending the awards night, except with the absence of some famous artists like Maggie Cheung, Jessica Hsuan, Myolie Wu, Michael Miu, Felix Wong, etc. All artists were dressed so beautifully, and many were in black colour.

The awards ceremony just ended and I had watched most of it, especially at the last half after having dinner. The results seems to be surprising to me in certain categories. Anyway, many of the results are expected and predicted, since what TVB picked as winners are always much known to us earlier based on our assumption. However, for this year, the result seems to be disappointing a bit. But as usual, Carol Cheng is the main emcee, since she is very experienced enough to host TVB’s events.

Without saying anything more, here is the official result:

Most favourite TVB.com artist: Raymond Lam

Thought: Predicted, Raymond Lam is so famous due to his look, singing and acting skills. Everyone likes him so much, no matter singing or acting in any series.

Most value appreciated variety show: The Voice 2

Thought: The Voice 2 is a singing competition, the show is most appreciated maybe because TVB wanted to heavily promote singing as part of important TVB programmes.

Best variety show: Hong Kong Architecture

Thought: Ahh, it’s my field of study. Eventhough I didn’t watch this show, but I think this show would reflect Hong Kong’s history and culture based on the architecture. Must be informative.

Best TV program host: Liza Wang, Wong Cho Lam, Louise Yuen, Johnson Lee – Fun with Liza and Gods.

Thought: I have to really salute Liza Wang and her cooperation with three insane guys who are very good in acting crazy and humourous things for audience to laugh like mad. Good collaboration! Never expected that they can cooperate so well! Liza Wang should be the wise woman that is very serious!

Best Performance of the Year: Moses Chan.

Thought: Since Tavia is the winner of this award firstly introduced last year, many people believed that this award is for those not going to win the best actor or actress later in the last part of the awards night. Yes, exactly…as Moses Chan took this award, he already said that he had no more chance for best actor…haha…it is a kind of pain-relief to the winner, at least he can grab something home..anyway, his effort in any series will be appreciated.

Most Improved Female Artist: Natalie Tong

Thought: Eventhough I hope Selena wins this because she waited for many years, but Natalie’s performance in the series she filmed on for this year is outstanding especially in ‘A Fistful of Stances’. Very emotional and good acting skill from her. Okay, I’m fine with her taking this award.

Most Improved Male Artist: Raymond Wong.

Thought: Very much expected because he filmed so many series for this year, as well as going to film for a lot of series next year too. Starting to get popular as he is heavily promoted like Pierre Ngo whom won this award last year.

Best Supporting Actress: Fala Chen (No Regrets)

Thought: Expected somehow eventhough her character in ‘No Regrets’ did receive negative reviews due to boredom of her death that only came at last, taking a lot of time of the film. Anyway, her performance as the character of Ching Ching is considered good and outstanding enough for her to win this award before stepping further to best actress in upcoming years.

Top 5: Kara Hui (A Fistful of Stances), Elena Kong (Beauty Knows No Pain), Susanna Kwan (Can’t Buy Me Love), Fala Chen (No Regrets), Nancy Wu (Gun Metal Grey)

Best Supporting Actor: Evergreen Mak (No Regrets)

Thought: I would love Pierre Ngo to win this because his character as Pai Guat in ‘No Regrets’ is so outstanding, but being ignored in last half of the series while focus is more on Evergreen Mak as Lau Fei Fan then. Nevermind, since Evergreen Mak had good performance in the series too, I’m fine with it somehow…there is still a lot of chance for Pierre Ngo, Evergreen Mak is just matured enough to win this…

Top 5: Ron Ng (O.L. Supreme) , Dominic Lam (A Fistful of Stances), Raymond Wong (No Regrets), Pierre Ngo (No Regrets), Evergreen Mak (No Regrets).

Most Favourite TV Female Character: Charmaine Sheh – Princess Chiu Yeung (Can’t Buy Me Love)

Thought: Expected, many people likes her character of being a naughty princess in the series. Her performance is outstanding and even amazing from what we can see from her dealing with Moses Chan in the series.

Top 5: Tavia Yeung (The Mysteries of Love), Teresa Mo (Some Day), Charmaine Sheh (Can’t Buy Me Love), Linda Chung (Can’t Buy Me Love), Sheren Tang (No Regrets)

Most Favourite TV Male Character: Raymond Lam – Professor Kingsley (The Mysteries of Love)

Thought: I didn’t expect Raymond would win this. I thought it should be given to Moses Chan to balance it up with Charmaine in most favourite character categories. Anyway, many people likes Raymond as mentioned earlier and no matter what role he got, he had high chance of winning this, eventhough his character as Professor Kingsley seems to be too dull.

Top 5: Steven Ma (A Watchdog’s Tale), Kenneth Ma (A Fistful of Stances), Raymond Lam (The Mysteries of Love), Moses Chan (Can’t Buy Me Love), Wayne Lai (No Regrets)

Best Actress: Sheren Tang (No Regrets)

Thought: Hands down on Sheren Tang. Thumbs up to her great, simply incredible performance in ‘No Regrets’. Her facial expression, walking and standing postures, everything from her top to bottom as well as outfits, her dialogues are absolute fantastic! Great job for her acting! She deserved it very much! She won the award continuously for two years! Record-breaking…

Top 5: Tavia Yeung (The Mysteries of Love), Linda Chung (Ghost Writer), Maggie Cheung (Beauty Knows No Pain), Charmaine Sheh (Can’t Buy Me Love), Sheren Tang (No Regrets)

Best Actor: Wayne Lai (No Regrets)

Thought: Okay, Wayne Lai won this to pair it up with best actress, Sheren Tang for the same series, ‘No Regrets’. Eventhough Wayne Lai’s role as Lau Sing is not very much outstanding and appealing, but no one can challenge his acting’s skill and experience. Another record-breaking , by winning the award for two continuous years, together with Sheren Tang.

Top 5: Raymond Lam (The Mysteries of Love), Steven Ma (Ghost Writer), Moses Chan (Can’t Buy Me Love), Wayne Lai (No Regrets), Felix Wong (Gun Metal Grey)

Best Series: Can’t Buy Me Love.

Thought: I didn’t believe that Can’t Buy Me Love won this best series award. No Regrets had higher peak rating than Can’t Buy Me Love. Of course we just can’t judge from rating, looking at what we have seen last year (battle between Beyond the Realm of Conscience and Rosy Business, Beyond had higher rating but Rosy won best series 2009). Can’t Buy Me Love and No Regrets are both good series, but I still prefer No Regrets as it is filled with touching as well as intense plots, probably with too many negative things happening in there, causing some negative reviews…so the award finally goes to the much more humourous and light series of Can’t Buy Me Love…

Top 5: A Chip Off the Old Block, The Mysteries of Love, Can’t Buy Me Love, Every Move You Make, No Regrets.

Lifetime Achievement Award (most prestigious): Louise Lee Sze Kei.

Thought: This one I also didn’t expect Louise Lee would win it. Eventhough she had outstanding performance especially in Heart of Greed and Moonlight Resonance and had been actively filming for series recently, but she had left TVB for quite some years. I think this award should goes to those who deserves more, whom had been staying in TVB for a long period of time and contributed a lot…maybe there is no more person qualified for this..anyway, still fine to me that Louise Lee won it, as she is so famous for her golden words that many people remembered till now…

Congratulations to all winners and for those who did not win, please try again next year on the 44th Edition of the TVB Awards Presentation 2011. Add oil yeah! :)
