News: Andy Lau goes under cover at Chu’s funeral

KUALA LUMPUR: The funeral of former beauty queen Carol Chu’s father took place amid local and international paparazzi trying to get shots of her long-term partner, Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau. Their lenses were mainly trained on the person walking at the front of the hearse – a position that by Chinese custom should be taken by the deceased’s son-in-law. Unfortunately, due to an army of bodyguards and the use of many large silver umbrellas to shield that person, the photographers and curious onlookers were unable to catch a glimpse of Lau.

The cameramen, including papa-razzi from Hong Kong, were also prevented from getting too close to the funeral procession at Bukit Jalil here yesterday. Although no one has been able to confirm if the person shielded by the umbrellas was Lau, it is believed that the Hong Kong superstar has been at Carol’s family house in Bukit Jalil for days. Family members and those who attended the funeral were told not to carry their mobile phones to protect his privacy.
A neighbour of the family claimed that she saw a female teenager at the procession, giving rise to speculation that she was Lau’s daughter.

It is learnt that Lau was supposed to have been driven to a cemetery in Cheras in a silver BMW but the huge crowd forced him to take the bus with other family members and friends. Lau has always kept mum on the status of his relationship with Chu and has never publicly acknowledged his relationship with her. However, their 24-year relationship is an open secret in the entertainment circle. One version has it that they registered their marriage in Canada in 1992 and have a daughter. A former minister had once disclosed that they had registered their marriage in Malaysia. Before the funeral, Chi-nese newspapers had reported that the last wish of Carol’s father was to see his daughter settle down with Lau. The elder Chu had expressed sadness that his daughter had to keep “hiding behind the lenses” as the unofficial Mrs Lau. There is talk that Lau has bought a piece of property in Malaysia in Carol’s name. The couple had planned to marry in April but the wedding was called off at the last minute after it was leaked to the media. It has since been postponed indefinitely. Carol’s father, , 73, died on Tuesday after a five-hour surgery to remove a blood clot. Source: The Star Malaysia 23/8/09 & top picture courtesy of China Press

Food Hunt: Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant, The Curve Mutiara Damansara

It was Kimmy's birthday today dated 17th August 2009 and both of us (decided earlier) to give it a try on Bubba Gump Shrimp at The Curve Mutiara Damansara. I arrived at Kimmy's house at about 7.50pm and we are on our way to The Curve. Then we reach the restaurant at about 8.20pm and the friendly staffs there guided us the way for our seats.

The staff then gave us the MENU for us to look into it and they asked us whether is this our first time here. We told them we are definately here for the first time and the waiter then explained to us about the rules and regulations of this restaurant. Me & Kimmy was like WAH! Got rules & regulations some more. Actually there's 1 rule that need to be followed only while calling the waiter. You cannot call the waiter just like that but you need to change the SIGNS provided on each table to call the waiter. Wow! Amazing isn't it? There are 2 signs shown on the table which are the "RUN FOREST RUN" (Blue Sign) & "STOP FOREST STOP" (Red Sign). Run Forest Run means you do not need any help from the waiter and Stop Forest Stop means that you do need assistance from the waiter.

We finally agreed to the signs thingy and we decided to go straight to the menu. There are appetizers, main course & desserts varieties to choose from from the menu. Of course the most popular dishes here is their shrimp and it's worth a try. I have ordered Bubba Baked Seafood Rice (see pictures below) & Speckled Lemonade Blueberry (see pictures below) and let me give comments about the food. The Bubba Baked Seafood Rice contains prawns, squid and rice filled with cheese. It was nice in the starting but as you go further, you will feel a bit boring with the cheesy flavour and you can easily get full because the portion is kinda big as well. About the Speckled Lemonade Blueberry drink, it was sour in taste and it's kinda nice also.

For Kimmy, she had ordered Mama Blue's Southern Charmed Fried Shrimp (see pictures below) and "Jenny's Favourite" drink (see pictures below). She told alexleow-kimmy.com that the Mama Blue's Southern Charmed Fried Shrimp dish is very nice and tasty. The shrimp was very fresh indeed. It came with 10 pieces of shrimp and then filled with french fries. For the drink "Jenny's Favourite", it was nice and tasty as well as it's just like a yogurt drink. I managed to tried the both of the dishes and found out that the dishes that Kimmy ordered was very nice compared to mine.

We left the restaurant at about 10.00pm as we managed to took some photos before we left. The waiter service there was amazing, kind & polite and I would say thumbs up for them. FYI, there are only male waiter who serve us as there's no female waitress to serve us. The food that we ordered overall was nice and we really enjoy it to the maximum. The price of the restaurant is of course a bit pricy but I believe it's still value for money. The bill came and it was RM105.30 for both of us (2 main course + 2 drinks). I recommend you to give it a try while you're at The Curve. MY RATING: 4/5 KIMMY RATING: 5/5

Lifestyle: Congratulations to Alan Leow for UTP Convo 2009

Greetings & Congratulations from alexleow-kimmy.com to my brother Alan Leow who gratuated today 16th August 2009 at University Technology Of Petronas:

Today is of course the historical day for my brother Alan Leow as this is his graduation day. Me & my family had attended the graduation ceremony held at University Technology Of Petronas in Tronoh, Perak. We went there about 11.50am this morning and reach there around 12.40pm noon. It was such a packed place as many people who turned out for this graduation day.

The ceremony started at about 2.30pm and lasted for about 2 hours. My father & mother went in the hall to witness the graduation ceremony but for me, I have to stay outside as there are limit 2 person who can entered the hall only. Well, while I'm outside the hall, I am still able to witness the ceremony via a big projector screen in front of the hall. My brother was the 11th person of the afternoon session who received the scroll from the UTP Pro Chancellor.

After the ceremony had ended about 5.00pm, of course my brother is the happy man as finally his studies were over. He took a lot of pictures (up to 200 pictures) with his classmates of course but unfortunately it will not show on my blog here. I will only post our family photos here. It was a memorable day for my brother, me and my family as finally my brother had been gratuated from University. Check out the photos.

Congratulations Alan Leow on your graduation ceremony! Welcome to the working life and hope you will climb more higher and higher in your career.

Soccer: Chelsea edge United on penalties to win feisty Shield match

Chelsea edge United on penalties to win feisty Shield match

WEMBLEY: Salomon Kalou scored the winning penalty yesterday as Chelsea beat Man chester United 4-1 in a shootout to clinch the Community Shield in Carlo Ancelotti’s first competitive match in charge. The traditional curtain raiser to the English season is rarely a spectacle, but on this occasion was hotly contested with a heated conclusion.

With the match level at 1-1 in the 71st minute, United’s Patrice Evra was lying on the ground after being fouled by Michael Ballack when Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard made it 2-1.
The goal sparked a furious reaction from United players who felt the game should have been stopped. The Premier League champions, however, equalised in stoppage time when Wayne Rooney broke free. But it was FA Cup winner Chelsea who dominated the shootout. “This is sweet,” Lampard said. “It feels nice to make a winning start to the season. “After that last goal we could have been on a downer but we didn’t let out heads drop.” This was United’s first competitive match since losing the Champions League final to Barcelona in May and after an off-season of upheaval as Alex Ferguson prepared for his 23rd campaign in charge. Ferguson started with Ben Foster in goal, giving him a chance to impress England coach Fabio Capello. Foster was tested inside two minutes when Didier Drogba struck from 20 metres. The Red Devils are still reeling from Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez being lured away from Old Trafford in big-money moves. Ultimately, United’s season is likely to hinge on how effectively Wigan’s Antonio Valencia can replace Ronaldo, who was sold to Real Madrid for a record £80mil.
The Ecuador winger only played the final half hour, replacing the injured Nani, who started on the left flank and was causing problems for Chelsea right back Branislav Ivanovic.

The Portugal winger took just 10 minutes to find the target, cutting inside from the left past Ivanovic and unleashing a fierce shot past Petr Cech. The Red Devils could have doubled their lead in the 16th when Wayne Rooney headed the ball back to Park Ji-sung on the six-metre box, but the South Korean’s effort was blocked by Cech, who also denied Dimitar Berbatov minutes later. Chelsea then began to assert themselves with Florent Malouda shooting wide and Michael Essien heading over. The equaliser came in the 52nd when Lampard won possession in the United penalty area and picked out Malouda and a chipped effort was only half cleared by Foster who was lightly injured in a clash with Didier Drogba. Ricardo Carvalho then headed the loose ball into the unguarded net. “That was a poor goal from our point of view and we should have defended it better,” Ferguson said. — Source from AP

Food Hunt: De Chiengmai Thai Seafood, Sungai Buloh

Hey All,

It was a dull Sunday afternoon in the first place after the move that me & Kimmy had watched in cinema earlier was not so nice after all. But everything's changed during the evening time where we've decided to go for a food hunt yet again to satisfy our needs. We would like to bring back our mood as me, Kimmy and Alan have chosen to go to Sungai Buloh to try out Thai food. After me & Kimmy had watched the movie, then at 6.00pm I go to fetch my brother Alan and then we are off to Sungai Buloh.

We reach Sungai Buloh at 7.00pm and we managed to find the restaurant pretty easily using my GPS. Nowadays with GPS, it's easy to find the destination there as well. The restaurant design was real great and nice. It's similiar to the kampung houses @ Thailand house decoration which is situated along the Kampung Sentosa in Sungai Buloh. Ok, once we find the table, we immedietely look at the menu. Actually, to be frank there are not many choices there as I browse thru the menu but I know what to order actually (before I go, I have done some homework). So, upon approval from Alan & Kimmy, I've ordered 4 dishes including Tom Yum Gung (mixed seafood), Sweet & Sour Siakap Fish, Pandan Wrapped Chicken & Belacan Kangkung.

It doesn't took long for the dishes to be served. If I am not mistaken, it only takes about 5-10 mins for all the dishes to be served as I believe they have cooked the dishes before and just reheat the dishes to be served to us. But to be frank, the dishes came were all fresh and tasty. It was totally unbelivable as the dishes that we've ordered was very nice and tasty. Let's begin with the Tom Yum Gung first. It's a mixed seafood Tom Yum Gong as it contains a lot of squid, prawn, chicken & mushroom and it's worth of money. The tom yum was totally amazing as it was enough hot and sour. It's priced RM35 for a medium size one.

Next, it's the sweet & sour Siakap Fish. The main point of this fish is the delicious sweet & sour sauce. Once you eat together between the sweet & sour sauce with the siakap fish, you can feel the amazing smell and you can feel that you would like to continuing to consume the fish again and again. It's priced RM40 per fish. The fish is pretty big and it's value for money.

The Pandan Wrapped Chicken was another great stuff as it's their restaurant popular dish. Most of the people who went there, will surely ordered the pandan wrapped chicken. The chicken was wrapped inside a pandan leaf and once served and you consume, you can smell the fragrance of the chicken and once you eat the chicken, the juice of the chicken will come out and you will be amazed with the taste. The pandan wrapped chicken is priced ar RM3 per piece and you have a choice of minimum 6,9 to 12 pieces. We've ordered 6 pieces of chicken.

Finally, introducing the Belacan Kangkung. Now, everyone as a chef can cook the belacan kangkung but what's so special about the belacan kangkung in De Chiengmai? Actually the secret is with the freshness of its vegetables. De Chiengmai grows it's own vegetables and they owned a mini farm just beside the restaurant. You can visit the farm during daytime. The vegetables served were so fresh and you can really enjoy the juicy freshness of the vegetables. With the good cook and the skills he had, he had made the belacan kangkung a very nice dish to consume. Amazing. The price is RM8 per plate.

The bill came and it costs RM110.00 including 4 dishes (RM101), 5 bowls of rice (RM1 per bowl) and a bottle of mineral water (RM4). There is no tax being calculated. Overall, the food was very nice and it's nearly into perfection. Although some of you would think, it's pretty expensive but for me I think it's value for money as long as it's nice. We took some photos there and you can view it partially from this blog and all of them via my Facebook. It worth of trying once in a while if you think the price was pretty expensive but it you are not looking into price, this is the place to be for wonderful Thai food. We took off from De Chiengmai restaurant at about 8.15pm. RATING: 5/5

My Comments: This movie claims to be Hong Kong Blockbuster yet again for 2009. It was another movie outing for me & Kimmy as I've rushed to the cinemas to watch this movie. I've tried to search for the entire cinemas looking for couple seats but unfortunately only GSC Tropicana City have is as at 1.00pm on Sunday. The movie was scheduled at 3.00pm Sunday. Without anymore hesitation, I went to online booking and finally I got the seats. After the movie finishes, it was a barely dissapointing movie of the evening. I taught it will be a hit but unfortunately the movie doesn't perform as it seems. The jokes was kinda lame and the storyline was abosultely senseless. Only a few innovations that impress me by Louis Koo but still it does not meet my requirement this time. It was a pretty bad Wong Jing movie and I hope I can see more improvement in future. It you really don't have movie to watch during the day, maybe you can consider watching this movie. RATING: 2/5

My Comments: It was unpredictable for me today as ME & Alan went to Berjaya Time Square after cutting our hair (time to cut our hair because it's very long already). Then once we reach Berjaya Times Square, the first thing in our mind is to watch movie. And guess what, Alan had suggested it and we've decided to go for a brand new movie which was just released on 6th of August. Introducing the G.I Joe: Rise Of Cobra. Seriously, this movie is yet another blockbuster after Transformers. If you love sci-fiction, technology, graphics and action, this is yet another thriller of actions which satisfied you from the start till the end. I believe, the director of this movie had spend almost a few millions in making this movie a success just like Transformers. G.I. Joe promises a kick when you are watching it at cinemas and you won't be bored. The story was so meaningful and the sequence was just perfect as it seems. It was an usual thingy where good guy Vs bad guy. Recommended to watch. Rating: 5/5

Alan Comments: According to our movie Guru, this movie was just as perfect as transformers. He told alexleow-kimmy.com that this movie was what he was looking at and it was amazing with it's storyline, graphics, actions and technology. All in 1 action packed movie and it's recommended to all. Very very worth watching. Rating: 5/5

Leisure: New design RM50 note issued

New design RM50 note issued

Bank Negara issued the new design RM50 banknote that incorporates various modern and innovative security features aimed at deterring counterfeiting. “This new design of RM50 banknote is the first denomination of the fourth series of Malaysian currency notes, which will be replacing the existing series in stages,” the central bank said in a statement here. Freshly minted: The new note has improved security features to deter counterfeiting. The reverse side of the note is shown above. It said the existing RM50 banknote design series would continue to remain legal tender and would co-circulate with the new notes and would be gradually phased out. No time limit had been set on the duration of co-circulation, it added. The enhanced security features incorporated in the new design include the colour-shifting security thread which replaces the existing security thread and is embedded in the paper. The thread appears on the reverse side of the note as coloured intermittent lines.

My Comments: Finally, the new Bank Note RM50 had arrived. It has a smaller size compared to the old RM50. I love the design of the new note and guess what, I will definately keep myself a copy so that I can keep it for myself for future reference. I have also taken a photo of the RM50 using my camera. If you still haven't get the bank notes yet, try your luck at your nearest ATM.
