Food Hunt: Kim Gary Restaurant (金加利茶餐廳), Mid Valley Megamall
Dear All,
Welcome back to yet another edition of the Food Hunt. Today ME & Alan were at Mid Valley for a while because we wanted to do some shopping and to look for money changer as well. We reach Mid Valley Megamall at around 11.00am and once we done our shopping and things, it's already 11.50am and then we've decided to settle down to have our lunch before heading back home.
We had chosen Kim Gary (金加利茶餐廳) as our choice for our lunch and at about noon, the crowd started building up and it's like going to be full. Once we finised out lunch around 1.00pm, the restaurant already crowded with people and some had to queue up outside before getting their seats. Once we sat down, we were immediately served and they service was very good. Still, when the restaurant is crowded, do expect some delays in serving their customers. I think they had sufficient staff to cover the restaurants when crowded.
We take a look at the menu and we've decided to call for the famous set of cheese baked rice. This set of Cheese Baked Rice consists of the main cheese baked rice dish, a soup, a dessert and a drink. Both of us ordered the same set but with different flavours. I've ordered Sliced Pork Szechuan Cheese Baked Rice with Red Sauce. For the desert, it looks similar like 'Tau Foo Fah' and for drinks, I've ordered Honey Lemon Ice. The soup that was served to us is the famous Hong Kong 'Losung' soup. For Alan, he ordered the Beef Cheese Baked Rice with White Sauce. The set remained the same except he ordered Honey Milk Ice drink.
The Cheese Baked Rice has nothing much special and the portion is pretty big as well. The taste is just normal and nothing much to brag about. In my opinion, the Cheese Baked Rice served by Wong Kok is much more better. The 'Losung' soup was good. It impressed me and it was tasty as well. A must ordered if there's an ala-carte for this soup. The drinks meanwhile was nice too. But I have to add RM1.00 for the drinks that I've ordered because it's a premium drink on the menu. The only drinks served free including Chinese Tea, Green Tea & Hong Kong Style Tea etc. Other than that, it will be charged RM1.00 extra including my drinks and Alan's Honey Milk Ice drink. For the dessert, it's not so nice and they should improved on their desserts served. It was pretty simply and the shape and taste is just like 'Tau Foo Fah' with some red bean being added as toppings at the top of the dessert. For Alan's Beef Cheese Baked Rice, it was just average and also nothing much to brag about as well. The Honey Milk Ice drinks are above average and still acceptable.
The bill came and it costs us about RM41.55 plus tax. The price per set is RM16.90 and for ours is RM17.90 per set as we've added RM1.00 for the drinks. The tax and service charge was pretty expensive as we need to pay almost RM6.00 extra. Overall, the price is just average. I would say the quality of the food are still so-so and I would not so recommend you the Baked Cheese Rice set to you. Perhaps you can still try it out and I hope you never regret upon ordering it. You may try other food such as rice or noodles and maybe you will find some great food over there and perhaps you may share it out for us in our blog for our reference as well. Enjoy! MY RATING: 3/5 ; ALAN RATING: 3/5
