Food Hunt: Restoran Sea Front 88 (Stall No.4), Portuguese Settlement, Malacca

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt. Today ME & Kimmy were at Malacca craving for food and finally we reached dinner time and not to be missed is our journey to Portuguese Settlement located at the hearts of Malacca town. We reached the Portuguese Settlement at about 7.00pm and it was pretty crowded. Once we enter the parking zone, a charge of RM1 for the parking fees and it's very reasonable indeed. Out of a sudden when you stepped out from your car, a bunch of people came towards you asking you to eat at their stalls as they try to promote their stalls. Don't be surprise about that. Then we walk towards the isle where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Straits Of Malacca and take some photos there as well. There's also a mini jetty where you can walk towards the jetty and then take some photos and take a closer look at the sea.

Then we head towards the Stall No.4 at the Food Court and here we found the Restaurant Sea Front 88. This is recommended by a few bloggers and my colleagues. We sat down and immediately we were served. It was not crowded at that time around 7.15pm and the crowd starts to pick up after 8.00pm and full. Of course their customer service is their top priority as there are so many stalls there and they are afraid you run off to other stalls. We were shown the menu and then this is what we've ordered:

1.) Portuguese Baked Stingray Fish (RM25.00)
2.) Belacan Spinach (RM8.00)
3.) Squid Fritters (RM12.00)
4.) Rice (RM2.00)
5.) Watermelon Juice (RM3.00) ; Carrot Milk Juice (RM3.00) ; Mango Juice (RM3.00) (Fresh)

We waited for about 10 minutes and the food were served. A plate of rice (servings for two persons) arrived together with the Belacan Spinach. The Belacan Spinach is just average and nothing so special about it. It's a little salty with some spicy taste. Next the Squid Fritters arrive. The Squid Fritters is a must try as it's crunchy and the squids are fresh too. Finally came the Portuguese Baked Stingray Fish where it took about 25 minutes for it to arrive probably it takes time to cook this fish. The taste is nice and it's a bit salty and most importantly it's spicy and nice to eat. We like the taste too.

Fresh Mango Juice (RM3.00)
Fresh Watermelon & Carrot Milk Juice (RM3.00 each)
The fresh Watermelon and Carrot Juice are simply awesome and nice. It's really fresh and tasty too and blended into perfection. Also not forgetting the Mango Juice which I think is one of the best drinks can be found here. The Fresh Mango Juice contains the fresh mango and added with a sour plum inside it and it's very refreshing. One of the BEST Mango Juice I've ever had before.

Portuguese Baked Stingray Fish (RM25.00)
Belacan Spinach (RM8.00)
Squid Fritters (RM12.00)
The price is very reasonable too. The portion for each dish is pretty big and definitely enough for 2 persons like us. The bill came and we pay RM56.00 and we get to taste 2 plates of seafood and it's definitely value for money. The food served are mostly salty and spicy and if you can accept these 2 taste, then the dishes would be definitely suitable for you to eat. We try this Stall 4 as recommended but upon my observation, each stall (total 10 stalls) has its own customers and it's equally the same customers they have. It's hard to tell which stall is the best but I think overall the food is good over there. I would strongly recommend you to come over to this place and besides enjoying the sea view, you can also enjoy great seafood too. Enjoy! MY RATING: 4/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5

Food Hunt: Baba Low Restaurant, Jalan Tengkera, Malacca

Hi All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt. Today ME & Kimmy had apparently visited Malacca to hunt for food and this is our main purpose to come here. We search and ask through our friends what food is nice in Malacca and we are set to go. After we reached Malacca at about 1.45pm, we then proceed to look for our lunch and Baba Low Restaurant is our choice. This restaurant is located along Jalan Tengkera and what is this restaurant famous for? This restaurant is famous for its Nyonya Laksa Noodles. Besides they stall is selling Nyonya Laksa, they also sell Mee Siam, Popiah and Pai Tee. I heard all of the food here is nice and the signature food would be the Nyonya Laksa.

We reach Baba Low's at about 2.00pm and the place is not crowded as it's already pass the peak lunch hour. We went straight to the counter and order what food we want. This is what we've ordered:

1.) Nyonya Laksa X 2 (RM4.00 per bowl)
2.) Barley Ice X 2 (RM1.30 per cup)

We did not have to wait long and the food and drinks arrived in the same times after 5 minutes waiting. Good service though. The Nyonya Laksa looks tempting as the gravy looks thick and nice before I try it. After I put into my mouth, the taste was nice and special as it's spicy and salty and it's totally different from our Curry Laksa here. It's something new that we have not tried back here in Kuala Lumpur and it's a good recommendation from my friends. The Barley Ice meanwhile is nice too and not too sweet. It's a homemade Barley Ice and it's healthy too.

Barley Ice (RM1.30)
Nyonya Laksa (RM4.00)
The price we pay is around RM10.60 for a simple meal and I must say the portion of the Nyonya Laksa is small and for guys you would at least ordered 2 bowls to satisfy your cravings. The price is acceptable and I would strongly recommend you to come over here to try out the Nyonya Laksa as well as other food here including the Mee Siam, Popiah and Pai Tee as they are equally nice too (as recommended by my friends). There goes our 1st Day Lunch at Malacca. Enjoy your meal. MY RATING: 4/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt and today we are at Kepong to find what are the best food around. We have visited Six Inch Cafe located at Kepong to find out what are the best food they offered. We reached the cafe at around 7.30pm and it's crowded. Every day from 8.00pm till 11.00pm, there will be LIVE Bands which will entertain its customers with mostly mandarin and English songs for you to listen. Not bad though.

We manage to find a place and then we looked at the menu. This is what we've ordered:

1.) Cheese Baked Italian Style Chicken Chop Rice (RM15.50)
2.) 6 Inch Onion Dog (RM7.50)
3.) Fried Abalone Mushroom (RM7.90)
4.) Watermelon Juice (RM 6.50)
5.) Korean Citron Tea (RM4.90)

We waited for about 10 minutes and the food arrives and it's pretty fast too. Despite a lot of people, their waiter and waitress are sufficient and great service too. Let's go straight to the food review. The Cheese Baked Italian Style Chicken Chop Rice is a must try when you are here. This meal is nice where you can taste heavy cheesy with heavy taste of Italian sauce that comes with Chicken Chop Rice. I do love it. Very recommended to order. Meanwhile the 6 Inch Onion Dog is also a must try as Kimmy told alexleow-kimmy that this is a signature dish and it's very tasty. Of course I did give it a try and it was really good as well. The hotdog meanwhile is perfectly cooked and filled with lots of onion and the onion taste is nice too. Another recommended dish to order. Next is the Fried Abalone Mushroom where this is our tidbits. It was nice and crunchy and it's recommended to order too. About the drinks, it does not dissapoints as well. The Fresh Watermelon Juice is very fresh and lovely. It's not too sweet and you can taste it's freshness as well. About the Korean Citron Tea, it was also nice. The aroma of the tea was simply awesome and according to Kimmy once you drink the tea, you will feel refreshed. Even it can be refilled but as you refilled for the second time, the taste has gone down a bit. The portion meanwhile is above average and it's just nice. Check out the photos on the actual size of the portion of the food.

Fried Abalone Mushroom (RM7.90)
6 Inch Onion Dog (RM7.50)
Cheese Baked Italian Style Chicken Chop Rice (RM15.50)
Korean Citron Tea (RM4.90)
Watermelon Juice (RM6.50)
Overall, this cafe serves a lot of varieties of food and most of the food I believe are tasty and worth of trying. The price we pay is around RM46.00++ as we ordered 5 items and for me the price is reasonable too based on the portion and the quality of the food. Besides you get to enjoy live music, you also get to enjoy good food and it's all in one roof. Why not come over to give it a try. Both of us would strongly recommend you to come over to try out the food here. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

Gadget Review: Black Magic Plug Power

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of another gadget review. Today we are going to give you an overall review on the automotive parts where Black Magic Plug Power was born. What is Black Magic Plug Power? Its a plug & play device on the plug cable/plug coil wires to improve current flow by filtering noise from the wires/cable. Must try to believe what it can do! Easy to install on bike or cars. This device purposes is to filter off high frequency from the cable before going into the plug coil and then to the plug for much cleaner and powerful spark. It enhance the pick up power and acceleration. Plug and play. Easy to remove, no cutting of wires. Guaranteed improved performance or money back. It also makes your engine more smoother and more quieter too as well.

Special thanks to Kevin Teo Hui Wei from Eco Asia Global Sdn. Bhd. who recommend me this product. Let me give you some results on my current drive. I am driving a Saga BLM and I have installed this device onto my car and have try for about 4 days and results are very satisfying. Previously my engine was loud and noisy and after installing the Black Magic Plug Power, the engine noise reduced and seriously I have a smoother drive and on top of that I can feel the car more response as well. The price is reasonable and really value for money. Why not give it a try? It's suitable for most type of cars (e.g. Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Proton etc.) The price is RM20 per piece (for Saga BLM) and you may enquire more by contacting Kevin Teo.

One of the best products that I've ever seen after I've installed the Power Booster Turbo Eco, Eco Concept Voltage Stabilizer & Turbo Air Booster. ____________________________________________________________

My Comments: Today ME & Kimmy are both at 1 Utama to catch a movie as I am a big fan of Wayne Lai of TVB. We purposely choose this movie and we watch it at GSC 1 Utama. This movie starring the famous TVB actor Wayne Lai as well as Singaporean Henry Thia, Ah Nam and Malaysian Singer Karen Kong. This is a low budget movie to be exact and then I do not put high expectation on this movie. It talks about beggars who lived in the streets of Penang and how they survived and to tackle the Ah Long's in the street. The storyline is draggy and not up to the expectations. Personally I think only Wayne Lai did a very job in acting while others did not perform up to expectations. The movie was rather boring and not much action can be seen. I nearly slept while watching this movie but at least my idol Wayne Lai did cheer me up and without him in this movie, it would be a rubbish movie. I would not recommend you to watch this movie as it's boring and if you are a Wayne Lai fans, then you can have an option to support your idol. Enjoy! MY RATING: 3/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 3.5/5

Food Hunt: Hou Xiang (后巷肠粉记) Restaurant, Bandar Sri Damansara, Kepong

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt. ME & Kimmy are again on our mission for Food Hunt and then we are back again this time. We have visited Bandar Sri Damansara to try out one of the famous Chee Cheong Fun in town. Recently it just opened one branch at Taman Sea in Petaling Jaya. We reached the restaurant at about 2.00pm and the restaurant is not crowded at this hour but also with some tables occupied. Once we sat down, we then take a look at the menu and this is what we've ordered:

1.) Curry Chee Cheong Fun (RM5.20)
2.) KL Style Salty Chee Cheong Fun (RM4.20)
3.) Beancurd Roll (RM3.70)
4.) Fried Shui Kao (2 Pcs) (RM3.20)
5.) Round Fish Cake (RM3.20)
6.) Longan Ice (RM5.30)
7.) Chinese Tea (Cold) (RM1.20)

Look at the items that we've ordered it looks like a lot but eventually it's just nice for 2 persons only. The portion overall it's not huge and small. If you are a big eater, the portion is not enough for you and you need to order more and maybe you'll pay more too and it's not cheap. It does take quite a long time for the food to arrive although the restaurant is not packed and the service is pretty slow. After we waited about 10 minutes, the Curry Chee Cheong Fun arrived first. It's delicious and tasty with rich curry taste. The noodle is fresh as it's made hot. The KL Style Salty Chee Cheong Fun is also nice and it's pretty salty too but the taste is great. The portion is really small and really stingy.

KL Style Salty Chee Cheong Fun (RM4.20)
Curry Chee Cheong Fun (RM5.20)
Besides they selling their signature Chee Cheong Fun, they also see Yong Tau Foo as well as normal snacks / cakes as well. We've ordered the Beancurd Roll, Fried Shui Kao and Round Fish Cake. Frankly, the snacks are pretty normal and nothing big to shout about. One thing I must say it's cooked fresh and so it's served hot. The portion is average and not huge either. The drinks meanwhile is pretty expensive and the portion is average (slightly larger than normal size). The Longan Ice is the normal tin can drink and it charges us about RM5.30.

Beancurd Roll, Fry Shui Kao, Round Fish Cake (RM3.20 - RM3.70)
Longan Ice (RM5.30) & Chinese Tea (RM1.20)
Overall, in my opinion that the food is just so-so except the Chee Cheong Fun which I really like it very much. If you are here, remember to try out their signature Chee Cheong Fun and I believe that you will enjoy the taste. The price is very expensive and not worth the money to be frank based on the portion they served. A big eater like me would definitely say expensive as the portion is not enough but luckily the snacks would help me a bit. Enjoy! MY RATING: 3/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5

Food Hunt: Hobahn Korean Restaurant, Desa Park City, Kepong

Dear All,

Welcome to yet another edition of Food Hunt. Today ME & Kimmy celebrated our Belated Valentines as we could not book a place during Valentines Day and worst still I have to work till almost 8.00pm and this had interrupted our planning. However, the next following day which is today, we manage to head on over to Hobahn Korean Restaurant located at Desa Park City Kepong to try out their food over there. It was also recommended by Kimmy.

I am very excited today. Having known that Kimmy recommended me to this Korean Restaurant and guess what, as early as 5.30pm, I am hungry already thinking of their Korean food. We reached the restaurant at about 7.45pm and it's crowded. However, we manage to find a seat over there. We browse through the menu and this is what we've ordered:

1.) Teriyaki Dakgui (BBQ Chicken Set) (RM32.00)
2.) Haemul Sundubu Jjigae (Small) + Korean Side Dishes (RM15.00)
3.) Namul Dolsot Bibimbap (Ala Carte) (RM16.00)
4.) Hyunmi Nokcha (Cold) (RM3.50)
5.) Kkul Aloecha (Cold) (RM6.00)

Surprisingly, the food arrived around 10 minutes despite the crowd and it was pretty fast too. The staff were all friendly and good too. Let's go straight to the food reviews. The Teriyaki Dakgui BBQ Chicken Set is one the best dishes that you can find in this restaurant as the BBQ Chicken was grilled into perfection and it was so nice and yummy. We loved the taste. You have an option to either eat it as normal or you can also eat it wrapped together with a few slices of vegetables that was prepared just for you. Also accompanied with this dish is some onions, chilli, mushrooms and a small slice of corn. The Haemul Sundubu Jjigae is actually a Korean Soup and it's accompanied by a set of Side Dishes (Refill need to pay).  The soup was fantastic and nice (taste some sort like tomato soup) and it contains seafood in it as well such as clams, squid, etc. It also has an egg in it too as well. The Korean side dishes are nice and delicious too.

Haemul Sundubu Jjigae (Small)
Namul Dolsot Bibimbap
Korean Side Dishes
Next would be the Namul Dolsot Bibimbap and it's actually a mixed bowl rice. This mixed bowl rice contains lots of ingredients including slices of cucumber and lots of vegetables and an egg as well. All you got to do is to mixed the rice and vegetables together and then eat it and guess what, it's very nice indeed. For drinks, I've ordered the Hyunmi Nokcha (Korean Green Tea) (Cold) and there's nothing special about it. About the Kkul Aloecha is actually Tea with AloeVera flavour and it's very healthy indeed. The taste is nice too.

Vegetables
Teriyaki Dakgui (BBQ Chicken Set)
Hyunmi Nokcha (Cold) &
Kkul Aloecha (Cold)
Overall, we enjoyed the food very much as it was so tasty and nice. The price we pay is around RM84.10 including a 10% Government and 6% Service Tax. I must say the price isn't cheap but I think once in a while is reasonable especially during some big occasions. I would strongly recommend you to come over to try out this restaurant and I am sure you will love it. Also not forgetting, this restaurant also serves Korean Bulgogi (BBQ) and do check it out as well and I've heard it's great too. Enjoy your meal! Festival: Happy Valentine's Day 2014

May God Bless Your Relationship Forever!

This is a special message from alexleow-kimmy.com whereby we would like to wish all a Happy Valentine's Day. No matter you are married or single or already have a couple for yourself, you still can celebrate Valentine's Day too.

Normally, Valentine's Day is a day where couples meet up together and they will preferrably celebrated it during dinner time where they will normally dine in restaurants. But some prefer to dine at home where they will have candlelight dinner as well. Then the male will normally buy presents for their love ones including a bunch of flowers, a box of chocolates etc. Some say, during Valentine's Day, it a day to have sex together to strengthen the relationship. It vary and depends on the individuals.

For those who are single, you still can date your friends out for dinner as well. You may date your female or male friends where they don't have any program or don't have any partners to go out for dinner. You won't know that you might end out with something pretty special after the outings. :) So why not give it a try yeah?

Beware that during Valentine's Day, the price will go up especially for dine in and for flowers. The prices will go up at least double of what you pay and you better be prepared for yourself. I mean you may save more money first before the day arrives whereby you must spend unless you have dine in at home. Enjoy yourself during your Valentine's Day.

_____________________________________________________

My Comments: Today ME & Kimmy had visited MBO Cinema at Kepong Village Mall to catch yet another movie of Chinese New Year and it's our 3rd day movie marathon in a row. This time around we have chosen to watch Huat Ah! Huat Ah! Huat! movie starring our very own local superstar Ah Niu and Joyce Cheng from Hong Kong. I walked into the cinema without any high expectations but it turned out to be slightly otherwise. I was amazed with this movie with how this movie can turned into a high profile drama with laughter, joy, action as well as some touching scenes as well. The script written by Tan Boon Huat was amazing it not only it's suitable for younger generations but it's also suitable for the older generations as well. It was a truly heart warming Malaysian movie that is suitable for the whole family. Aniu, who managed to perform all out in this movie with his acting skills impressed me with his silly character as well as his ability in this movie.

For Joyce Cheng, there's not much that we could see from her in this movie as she's quite quiet in this movie with slightly less appearance than Aniu. Aniu role was also supported by our experience HVD actor and actress who is very experienced and was involved in our local drama scenes in the 90's. Do also check out Aniu friends in this movie who is a bunch of children which is very good in acting and does all the credit and would make the children laugh too. Overall, it's a great Chinese New Year film that you must watch with your family as well. Strongly recommended. Enjoy! MY RATING: 4/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5 (PERFECT)

___________________________________________________________

My Comments:  It was a great weekend for ME & Kimmy as we had chosen Cathay Cineplex at Damansara for our movie. We have selected yet another Chinese New Year movie of our choice this time and without any hesitation, we've watched the movie Hello Babies. This movie talks about babies where 2 fathers (Eric Tsang & Raymond Wong) would desperately wanted a baby from their son and his in law. They would use several tactics to get their son and in laws to have babies and during their journey, there are so many laughter and jokes that you can actually looking forward into. The storyline is very simple and straight forward yet there's no guessing in this movie. The casts were all experience and strong and the casts like Raymond Wong, Eric Tsang, Fiona Sit, Sandra Ng and Ronald Cheng already taken centre stage in this movie and you should not missed it. I would not say it's the best as almost every Chinese New Year (Hong Kong Edition) looks the same way but at least we do have the best laughter and joy. Also look out into some scenes that were shot in Ipoh (Foh San Dim Sum & Gaharu Tea Plantation) and the view was beautiful too. Still a very recommended movie to catch this festive season for the whole family. Enjoy! MY RATING: 4/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5
