Lifestyle: AEON Station 18, Ipoh

Hello folks,

Welcome back to another edition of mall introduction and today ME & my family had eventually went to AEON Station 18 in Ipoh where this mall is opened to public since this year March. Until today only I have the time to visit this newly open AEON Mall and it's one of the biggest mall in Ipoh. And to compare the malls like Paradigm Mall, AEON Mall is bigger than Paradigm Mall in terms of size.

In this mall, it's an new era for all the Ipoh people as it mushrooms all the top names in fashion as well as food & beverages as well. Some outlets here are pretty similar like those in Klang Valley and to Ipoh people, it's a big convenience for them and they do not need to come over to KL to enjoy this.

Among the top tenants that I've saw for Fashion including Mango, Cotton On, Padini Concept Store, Al-Ikhsan, Universal Traveller, Adidas, Giordano, SUB, Hush Puppies, Quick Silver, F.O.S, Nose, Guess and many more. For Food & Beverages, I have tonnes of them including Sakae Sushi, Sushi King, Each A Cup, Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, Nando's, Chatime, Hong Kong Kim Gary, Kenny Rogers, Starbucks Coffee, Baskins Robbins, Taang Shifu Restaurant and many more.

Besides, the main departmental store which is the AEON which sells various types of items, other store that sells miscellaneous stuffs such as Daiso Japan, Good Time Family Amusement Centre, Popular Bookstore, IT World, Country's Tid-Bits & Candies Cottage any many more. Also not forgetting, TGV Cinemas will opens its doors this coming July and Ipoh residents have another good place to watch movie without needing to go to Ipoh Parade or Kinta City. It was a friendly family store and it's worth of going as the parking rates are pretty cheap as well. It follows the parking rates among the AEON stores where the first 2 hours is free for AEON Card members else RM1.00 per entry. I think this mall is very suitable for Ipoh residents and now they can come to this mall to shop whatever they want to find and it's all under one roof.

Congratulations to AEON for opening this mall at Station 18 at Pengkalan, Ipoh and during my next visit later probably with Kimmy, I hope they are more shops opened as some shops are still under renovation or not yet occupied. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5

Food Hunt: Kedai Kopi & Minuman Kean Seng, Gunung Rapat, Ipoh

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another version of Food Hunt and it's a Sunday folks. How have you been? Hope you all had been great all this while. My Food Hunt journey continues in Ipoh and this time I will bring you guys to the famous Assam Laksa in Gunung Rapat, Ipoh. This is yet another hidden gem restaurant situated in Gunung Rapat and only the local people knows about this restaurant. If you are from outstation, you might not heard about this restaurant. It's a village type of shop and it's situated along the Gunung Rapat main road and it's just opposite the main market. This restaurant opens late and closes early. Introducing Kedai Kopi & Minuman Kean Seng.

We reached the restaurant at about 1.00pm and the restaurant is almost full. Please also bear in mind that the seat on this restaurant is limited and since it's a 1 storey shop, it only has about 10 tables inside the restaurant and you have wait if there's full of crowd. We reached there and it's almost full but we still manage to find a place to sit. As I said, famous restaurants tend to get crowded easily. We sat down and we ordered drinks first as usual. I've ordered their famous drink that served over there which is the famous 'Limau Kasturi' (Lemon Lime) Juice (RM1.50). For you to order the Assam Laksa (RM2.20 per bowl), you need to proceed to the hawker stall outside the restaurant to order and you may also choose side dishes or orders such as fish balls, tofu, 'fu zhuk' and others (RM0.50 per piece).

Assam Laksa & Lemon Lime Juice
It does not take very long for the Assam Laksa to arrive and it takes about 5 minutes only. It's pretty fast though although there's a lot of customers. Well, it's not difficult to prepare the Assam Laksa as you need to just cook the mee and then the Assam is already well prepared. Good job! Alright, let me tell you the taste of the Assam Laksa. Now if you love sour Assam Laksa, this is the place for you else you will feel it's not nice. I prefer spicy and sweet as well as little sour compared to this Assam Laksa which is completely sour taste. Of course, you can add more Prawn Paste to make it sweeter. Still, it's not spicy though. I would rate it so-so taste. For the Lemon Lime Juice, it's very nice and a recommended drink over here. Do try it over here.

The price is not so expensive considering a bowl of Assam Laksa costs RM2.20 per bowl but it's very small portion. The side orders of fish balls, tofu and others costs about RM0.50 per piece and I would say the price is pretty reasonable. The total bill for us is about RM16.00 plus everything including drinks for 4 persons. I would still recommend you to come over here to try out the Assam Laksa over here and give me some comments whether you like it or not because different people will have different taste. My family loves the taste of it but not me. Enjoy! MY RATING: 3/5 ; FAMILY RATING: 5/5

Food Hunt: Restoran Fai Kee (辉记小食馆), Ipoh

Dear All,

Welcome back to the next edition of Food Hunt and for today it's a beautiful Sunday morning and it's time for breakfast again. After a discussions with family on where to have breakfast on Saturday, finally we have decided to try out the Fish Head Noodle located at the hearts of Ipoh City and it's located nearby the famous Ipoh Hotel Excelsior. The name of the restaurant is called Fai Kee.

We reached Fai Kee at about 10.30am and on a Sunday morning, the restaurant is very crowded. It's hard to find a place and their business is good until they extended their table and chairs opposite the restaurant with a big tree. We managed to find a place inside the restaurant and we have eventually waited for about 10 minutes before we manage to get a place inside the restaurant.

Once we sat down, we ordered drinks first and I've decided to try out the Ipoh White Coffee (Ice) (RM1.50). In the meantime, if the restaurant is too crowded, you need to go to the noodle stall and place your order and they will deliver the food to you. During weekdays, they will come and ask you what to eat but during weekends, usually you need to place your order at the stall there. We've ordered all 4 bowls of Fish Head Noodle (fried fish head) with evaporated milk in it. (RM6.50 per bowl). We also ordered some side dishes (it's a bowl of 9 pieces of fishball) (RM0.60 per pieces). Please be also noted that the price of the food on the menu will kept changing and increasing from time to time (at press time is RM6.50 per bowl now. Old menu back in year 2009 to 2010 pricing RM5.50).

Yes, it does take about 20 minutes for the food to arrive as it's full and it's considered good enough already as they manage to control the crowd well. Before that let me comment on the Ipoh White Coffee that I've ordered. It's tasty and delicious as I can taste the aroma of the White Coffee and it's very 'gau' (pekat) too. Simply love the taste of the nice brew Ipoh White Coffee here. Recommended to try. Ok! Next we continue with the comments of the Fish Head Noodle. It's a different way of cooking here compared to Klang Valley and although with evaporated milk, I can taste it's a sour soup type of Fish Head Noodle and they added the salty vegetable to mix with the soup. Although it's sour, still the Fish Head Noodle is nice to eat with its own nice taste. It's not the type of sweet as served at the Klang Valley. For me, it's pretty special and I simply love it too. For those who ordered the normal Fish Head without Evaporated Milk, the soup looks normal and not as white as the evaporated ones. Please see picture below to compare.

Fish Head Noodles With Evaporated Milk
Fish Head Noodles Without Evaporated Milk
The price is reasonable and it's almost comparable with the Klang Valley but I would say the portion is pretty small especially the fish portion where they gave its customers a lot of fish head but with bones (less flesh or meat). I have been enjoying the noodle but I only chew very less Fish Head flesh only. They are not so generous in this aspect but overall the noodle is nice. The price we pay for 4 person is approximately RM31.50 (drinks not included). I hope they can be generous when I pay them a next visit in future on their fish head flesh and not only giving its customers more bones than the flesh. Still a recommended place to go especially the specialty of their fish head noodles taste. Enjoy! MY RATING: 4/5

Food Hunt: Restoran Kim Wah (金华楼海鲜大酒家), Tanjung Tualang, Perak

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt where this weekend, ME & Alan had back to hometown in Ipoh and of course we are in the mission to continue for food hunting once again. This time, with the recommendation from my father and mother, we've decided to go to the most famous place for seafood which is in Tanjung Tualang. Have you ever heard of this name? This is a small town but it's famous for its seafood especially the big head prawn. It approximately 45 minutes drive from Ipoh and it will pass by Batu Gajah before reaching Tanjung Tualang.

We arrived at the restaurant about 6.30pm and there's not much people in the restaurant. It a very clean restaurant and it's air conditioned. It's a very good customer service there and we got our place upon reaching the restaurant. This is what we've ordered for about 7 pax. We've ordered 2 plates of Big Head Prawn with different flavours, 'Kembung' Fish with Assam Flavor, 'Yong Tau Foo', Salty Egg Crabs and 'Paku' Vegetables. It does not take very long for the food to arrive (waited for 15 minutes only) and we whack the meal right after the food arrive.

The big head prawn are nice and tasty. The 2 different flavours (Kam Heong and Normal) (see pictures) are both nice and the portion is really big too. If you look at the prawn, it's really big and tasty and if you dip it with their own chilli sauce, it's rather more satisfying and tasty. Yummy! About the Kembung fish with Assam Flavor, the fish is fresh and the meat is delicious too. It does not end there as the Assam flavor that says it all and it's simply superb. Another yummy dish. The Yong Tau Foo looks pretty decent too but my family say my aunty's one is more better! Hehe! However, the salty egg crab is the most letdown. It's not nice at all as the salty egg already stick on the crabs and it's not so delicious as it seems. The crabs does not have any flavor at all. Should have ordered other flavor of crabs. Finally the Paku Vegetables looks pretty decent as well and the taste is nice too. The paku vegetables is cooked together with the 'Belacan' flavor and I love the taste.

Overall, the whole meal looks pretty delicious although the crabs spoil it a little bit but we do enjoyed our meal. The price does not looks pretty cheap but I have to say it's just nice. Of course it's not too expensive though. The bill came and it costs us about RM230.00 with all the dishes in medium sized. I would recommend you to come over here to try out the dishes over here if you tend to come over here to Tanjung Tualang. There's 3 dishes recommended to you here which are Big Head Prawn, 'Kembung' Fish with Assam Flavor and 'Belacan' Paku Vegetables. You may try other dishes as well as they served a lot of dishes as well as set dishes as well. Check out with them. Enjoy your meal folks! MY RATING: 4/5

Food Hunt: Flaming Steamboat Seksyen 33, Shah Alam

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another Food Hunt review and today I am giving you a short review of the steamboat buffet restaurant that was situated at Seksyen 33 in Shah Alam and it's nearby Taman Sri Muda. It's a Halal Steamboat Restaurant and they does not serve pork. Today is Friday and ME & my colleagues had planned for a dinner outings and we are glad to gather together and enjoy the food together. We have 7 pax altogether which includes Chee Fatt, Kit Chai, June, Kathilyn, Karen ME & Chris.

The food varieties was quite good but not as much as other famous steamboat buffet restaurants and the most important thing about steamboat is actually the soup and the freshness of the food. We ordered the Tom Yam and 'Ching Tong' soup and both soups are acceptable and not too bad and not too good either. The Tom Yam Soup is very sour and quite spicy as well and the normal 'Ching Tong' soup is just nice with not much taste in it. The freshness of the food is acceptable especially the fish balls and the seafood meanwhile is quite fresh but not too fresh I must say.

The price meanwhile is quite expensive considering the variety of food as well as the quality of food that is provided to its customers. It's around RM28.20 per pax and I would rather enjoy something more better at those steamboat shops in Sunway Mentari side. I would not recommend you to come over here to try out their food unless you are working around the area and then not much steamboat buffet restaurant to choose from. I would recommend you to better to visit Sunway Mentari for more steamboat choices. Enjoy! MY RATING: 3/5

Cinema Movie: Dark Shadows

Language: English
Subtitle: Malay / Chinese
Genre: Thriller / Horror
Running Time: 1 Hour 53 Minutes
Director: Tim Burton
Cast: Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloe Moretz, Gulliver McGrath

Synopsis:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

____________________________________________________________

My Comments: Watch this movie if you watched The Twilight Saga and I would say that this movie is better than Twilight Saga. It was a great vampire movie so far and with director Tim Burton directing, it will be one the good movie so far this year around. This movie is not the best but enough to make its audience felt suspense and eager to know what is the conclusion of the movie. Starring the famous Johnny Depp as the Barnabas Vampire, you will not felt boring but this vampire is fulled of jokes and an old fashioned vampire as well. The storyline was well plotted and it's good and not the best as I said earlier. You may guess what is going to happen but in between there's a lot of mysteries that is unsolved and you will be amazed by the effects as well. There's a digital 2D format as well as the normal format. I would recommend you to watch this movie if you are a vampire fan (if you watched Twilight Saga) before and I would like you to compare which one is good but I would give my vote to this one. Enjoy! MY RATING: 4/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5

Soccer: Chelsea claim Champions League glory

Chelsea claim Champions League glory

Scoring Summary

Bayern Munich Chelsea

Arjen Robben (pen miss 95')
Chelsea won the Champions League final on German soil as they beat Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 in normal time.
•  Terry backs Di Matteo

• Champions League Gallery Photo GalleryBayern had much the better of the game, missed numerous chances in the first-half and were made to wait until the 83rd minute for the opener when Thomas Muller appeared at the back post to head past Petr Cech.Despite a lack of ambition until then, Chelsea were not done and equalised in a thrilling finale when Didier Drogba headed home from the Blues' first corner of the game with two minutes left to go.Drogba almost turned from hero to villain as he tripped Franck Ribery in the box in the first period of extra-time but Cech saved Arjen Robben's penalty low down to his left. The rest of the game yielded no goals and it was left to penalties to decide the winner. It looked like Chelsea would lose the shootout as Juan Mata missed, but Ivica Olic - with his last kick as a Bayern Munich player - and Bastian Schweinsteiger missed and Drogba stroked home for glory. From his place in the stands, owner Roman Abramovich was clearly overjoyed, as was the suspended John Terry, who watched the tense shoot-out unfold from the touchline.Assisted by the obvious advantage of playing at home, Bayern got themselves on the front foot immediately and were rarely pushed back. The nearest they came was when former Chelsea man Arjen Robben glided past two defenders, then drilled a low shot towards goal, which Petr Cech managed to deflect high onto a post, with Robben barely able to believe he had failed.Robben had another couple of chances before Muller volleyed wide.Robben and Muller combined to create an opening for Mario Gomez that he looked certain to capitalise on after a deft body movement had left Gary Cahill stranded, only for the Bayern sharp-shooter to lash over.Handed a surprise start, Ryan Bertrand coped well. It was the first time a player has made his debut in the competition in the final in the Champions League era. It was on the other side where Franck Ribery was proving to be a complete menace. What they did at the Camp Nou gave Chelsea immense belief in their own durability. Indeed, they might have had something to celebrate themselves had Juan Mata kept his curling free-kick down or Salomon Kalou been able to direct a shot away from Manuel Neuer after Frank Lampard and Drogba combined to set him up from an admittedly acute angle. The pattern continued after half-time and Ribery thought he had grabbed a deserved opener when he snaffled the loose ball after Cole had blocked Robben's goalbound shot. The offside flag cut German celebrations short.Cole's involvement was part of an outstanding contribution from the full-back, who seemed to be in the way of nearly all the threats to Chelsea's goal. He denied both Robben and Toni Kroos as Chelsea, enhancing his status one of the few truly world class players Roy Hodgson will have at his disposal at Euro 2012.In response, Drogba, possibly making his last appearance for the club, unleashed a speculative long-range volley that dipped wide.Bayern found the breakthrough seven minutes from time when Kroos curled a cross to Muller who intelligently headed the ball hard and down, which meant it bounced up towards the crossbar, possibly catching Cech by surprise. But Abramovich's team are made of stern stuff. And with barely two minutes remaining, and Muller replaced by an extra defender in Daniel van Buyten, Drogba rose at the near post to power Mata's corner home. This time there was nothing the goalkeeper could do, the ball speeding past Neuer at such pace there was no time for reaction. The drama continued into extra-time as Drogba bundled Ribery over in the box. Whilst the contact might not have looked much, it was enough to end the Frenchman's evening and it was a definite spot-kick.Robben hit his penalty towards the bottom right but he failed to find the corner and Cech was equal to it, making a fine save to his left and then smothering the rebound. It was the kind of moment that made you think fate had decreed a Chelsea win, a belief only strengthened by Bayern passing up two clear openings in the second period of those additional 30 minutes.Drogba kept his nerve as Olic and Schweinsteiger failed to ensure Chelsea erased the memory of their misery in 2008 by conquering Europe for the first time.
