Food Hunt: QBean, 1 Utama Shopping Complex

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of the Food Hunt and this week, ME & Kimmy had decided to go 1 Utama Shopping Complex for some windows shopping and of course to go for the Food Hunt once again. We've discovered this restaurant on the web and would like to try it out. I've bought this coupon on a promotional rate and without any hesitation, we've like to try it out. Introducing QBean Restaurant and this restaurant serves the best 100% made soy bean in town and it's nice.

Disgruntled serfs planning to poison their masters with a cocktail of tofu and strawberries were dismayed to find their concoction frozen in the refrigerator, and consumed as delectable ice cream. Soy boys infuse the frigid beauty of ice cream with lactose intolerant tofu, to give birth to premium soy ice cream available with strawberry, chocolate, Oreo or peanut toppings. Milked daily from the freshest bean curd bovines imported directly from Canada, ice cream is formulated from a secret in-house recipe designed to entice unbound desserters to leave a life of savoury servitude. Free of preservatives, colouring, thickeners, flavouring and cow milk, this high protein, low fat dessert is an ideal substitute to dairy cousins. Whether for dine-in or take away, customers are advised to consume ice cream immediately to avoid bundles of soy making friends with shuffling shoes. Qbean offers a range of other soy products such as flavoured soy milk (RM3.90) and ice-blended drinks (from RM8.90).

We've tried the Ice Cream with toppings and we've selected Oreo and Peanut toppings as our choice. The other 2 choices available would be Strawberry or Chocolate (RM4.50 per cup). I would say the Ice-Cream portion is really big and it's value for money as well. It's definitely enough to share among the couples. The taste was simply amazing as you can really taste the soy bean and it was great. Both Orea and Peanut toppings has it's own uniqueness and I would say it's very good. For the price of RM4.50 (no service or government tax imposed), I guess it's still worth it and you will enjoy it. I would STRONGLY recommend you to try this out despite the portion and most importantly the taste of the ice-cream which gives both of us total satisfaction till the maximum. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 5/5

Food Hunt: Bread Basket Bakery, Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Food Hunt. Today is Sunday and it's been a while where ME, Alan & Kimmy had a chance to gather together to have dinner for tonight. It's a lovely Sunday night and the reason 3 of us managed to gather together is because Alan is going for a business trip to Japan and before departure, we manage to have dinner together.

We had chosen Bread Basket Bakery located at Kota Kemuning as I've tried once before and this is the second time that I'm here. We reach the restaurant at around 7.00pm and the the crowd is just average. Once it reaches around 8.00pm, the bakery started to fill with large crowds. Frankly, the seats available is not sufficient to cater a lot of people and it has to extend outside the bakery. Once we sat down, we were immediately served with the menu. By looking at the menu, you will feel pretty tempted as it serves a wide range of food ranging from our local food to the Western Food.

It took us about 15 minutes to look at the menu and to decide what to try because we are pretty cautious to select which food is good. Kimmy had chosen Tom Yam Seafood with Rice (RM9.00) with Ice Peach Tea (RM3.50) while I've chosen Claypot Yee Mee (RM9.00) with a glass of Ice Lemon Tea (RM3.50). For Alan, he ordered Spaghetti Olio Cheese Prawn (RM14.90) together with a glass of Ice Lemon Tea (RM3.50) as well. Once we ordered, it took the food about 10 minutes to come to us and I would say the service is pretty fast. Once the food arrived, we immediately eat it without wasting our time.

The food meanwhile was par below our expectations. Let's talk bout Kimmy's Tom Yam Seafood With Rice. The portion is pretty small and the Tom Yam soup was so terrible as it was too sour and it was too spicy as well. Once Kimmy try it, it was a huge disappointment as ME & Alan also took a chance to try out the soup as well. For the Ice Peach Tea, it has a great taste. For my Claypot Yee Mee, it was indeed a huge disappointment as well and it was absolutely terrible. The soup was tasteless and awwww shucks! I've nothing to comment but left so disappointing. For the Ice Lemon Tea, it was good indeed. For Alan's Spaghetti Olio Cheese Prawn, it was just average and still acceptable. You can try out this dish but do not put high hopes on this as well. I would also like to comment that on my previous visit where I've ordered Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang (RM8.90) and this dish is good and recommended to you. Before I forget, after your meal, you will be served a scoop of Ice Cream for Free Of Charge. The taste of the ice-cream meanwhile was good and it refreshes our mood after the terrible food.

Overall, the food looks pretty sucks except certain food that are delicious only. I did seek my friends advice and he told alexleow-kimmy.com that this restaurant is famous for its sandwich, bread and its desserts and drinks. It pretty delicious as well but for other dishes, it was just so-so to average only. Now I believe what he says and in the menu, there's a hand sign showing good meaning that's their signature dish and you should try it out. The price of its portion doesn't really look impressive as it was expensive as the portion is pretty small overall. The bill came and overall it costs us about RM43.40 and it's not worth and value for money although there's no government nor service tax. You judge yourself. I would recommend you to come over here but DO NOT try the food stated above. Remember, go for recommended food located at the menu. MY RATING: 3/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 2/5; ALAN RATING: 3/5

Food Hunt: Kim Gary Restaurant (金加利茶餐廳), Mid Valley Megamall

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of the Food Hunt. Today ME & Alan were at Mid Valley for a while because we wanted to do some shopping and to look for money changer as well. We reach Mid Valley Megamall at around 11.00am and once we done our shopping and things, it's already 11.50am and then we've decided to settle down to have our lunch before heading back home.

We had chosen Kim Gary (金加利茶餐廳) as our choice for our lunch and at about noon, the crowd started building up and it's like going to be full. Once we finised out lunch around 1.00pm, the restaurant already crowded with people and some had to queue up outside before getting their seats. Once we sat down, we were immediately served and they service was very good. Still, when the restaurant is crowded, do expect some delays in serving their customers. I think they had sufficient staff to cover the restaurants when crowded.

We take a look at the menu and we've decided to call for the famous set of cheese baked rice. This set of Cheese Baked Rice consists of the main cheese baked rice dish, a soup, a dessert and a drink. Both of us ordered the same set but with different flavours. I've ordered Sliced Pork Szechuan Cheese Baked Rice with Red Sauce. For the desert, it looks similar like 'Tau Foo Fah' and for drinks, I've ordered Honey Lemon Ice. The soup that was served to us is the famous Hong Kong 'Losung' soup. For Alan, he ordered the Beef Cheese Baked Rice with White Sauce. The set remained the same except he ordered Honey Milk Ice drink.

The Cheese Baked Rice has nothing much special and the portion is pretty big as well. The taste is just normal and nothing much to brag about. In my opinion, the Cheese Baked Rice served by Wong Kok is much more better. The 'Losung' soup was good. It impressed me and it was tasty as well. A must ordered if there's an ala-carte for this soup. The drinks meanwhile was nice too. But I have to add RM1.00 for the drinks that I've ordered because it's a premium drink on the menu. The only drinks served free including Chinese Tea, Green Tea & Hong Kong Style Tea etc. Other than that, it will be charged RM1.00 extra including my drinks and Alan's Honey Milk Ice drink. For the dessert, it's not so nice and they should improved on their desserts served. It was pretty simply and the shape and taste is just like 'Tau Foo Fah' with some red bean being added as toppings at the top of the dessert. For Alan's Beef Cheese Baked Rice, it was just average and also nothing much to brag about as well. The Honey Milk Ice drinks are above average and still acceptable.

The bill came and it costs us about RM41.55 plus tax. The price per set is RM16.90 and for ours is RM17.90 per set as we've added RM1.00 for the drinks. The tax and service charge was pretty expensive as we need to pay almost RM6.00 extra. Overall, the price is just average. I would say the quality of the food are still so-so and I would not so recommend you the Baked Cheese Rice set to you. Perhaps you can still try it out and I hope you never regret upon ordering it. You may try other food such as rice or noodles and maybe you will find some great food over there and perhaps you may share it out for us in our blog for our reference as well. Enjoy! Food Hunt: Western Food @ Restoran Mayiang Jaya, Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of the Weekend Food Hunt where ME & Alan had lunch on a hot Sunday afternoon and we've decided to head towards Taman Mayang to take lunch. Special thanks to my brother Alan Leow who introduce me this place. This place is a small western food stall inside the Restoran Mayiang Jaya.

We reach the restaurant at around 1.45pm and the stall in still open. We sat down and immediately we ordered the western food. I've ordered Black Pepper Chicken Chop while Alan ordered Black Pepper Pork Chop. Both priced at RM10.00 each. We have not waited long as the food was quite fast because it was very less people. But during weekdays especially during lunch break, it was pretty hard and you need to wait very long as many people would order this Western Food too. Furthermore, my brother told me that one 1 person doing the cooking while another one just serve the customers.

Let's go straight to the food review. When the food arrive, I was shocked to learn that the portion is really big and it's very acceptable. I was so happy and amazed that for RM10.00, you get this type of portion which contains 1 egg, 1 chicken chop, french fries, 1 mini bun and 2 sausages (please see pictures). Not only the portion is big, when I taste it, it was super nice and I love this very much. After finishing the chicken chop, I even continue to eat the remaining Black Pepper Sauce at the plate. You can imagine how good it is right? For the french fries, they even serve you with the mayonnaise and you can eat together with it. Alan & ME both were equally impressed with the quality and the portion of the food and 5 thumbs up for this Western Food stall. I even stepped up to the stall owner and tell him that this is very impressive and we love it very much.

There's a few more choices besides the chicken and pork chop such as Lamb, Beef, Fish & Chips and many more. At the same price for almost of the chops except Lamb and Beef which sold around RM12 above, I would fancy the food to the best so far that I've ever tried. I would recommend you to come over and try out this food. I would also bring Kimmy to try out the this stall later as well. I've got nothing much to comment except one word PERFECT that would describe my whole face. Do come on over and I will attached the map above for your reference as well. Enjoy your weekend! My Comments: It's the weekend again and that means it's yet another movie weekend for us once again. Today is a Saturday and it's a public holiday as ME & Kimmy had decided to go to Berjaya Times Square to shopping and of course to watch movie as well. We had chosen Kung Fu Panda 2 as our movie choice as both of us are very anticipated for this movie. We had waited for so long as we vowed to watch this movie as it's our favourite. We had pretty high hopes for this movie because we hope it was as funny and interesting as the first episode. The first chapter was good and now I am going to comment on the second chapter. It does not dissapoints me as it was good but still not as good as the first chapter. With the voice of popular hollywood stars such as Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan, this movie is a much watch as their voices completely suits the movie well and makes the movie more lively and funny. This movie contains action and jokes that are pretty equal most of the time and it was great to watch as well. The only thing about this movie is that it lacks of a great storyline. It was too simple to guess and it was not as interesting as the first chapter. It talks about the Panda who wanted to save the Kung Fu before it was ruined by other people at a city. That's all I can tell and to find out more, do watch it at cinema. I would recommend you to watch this movie as you will definitely won't feel bored about this movie. The audience at the cinema laughed out loud most of the time and I can see they really enjoyed the movie. It is recommended for all kinds of age and it suits for couples and the whole family as well. So what are you waiting for? Go and watch is as soon as possible before it's too late! Enjoy! MY RATING: 4/5 ; KIMMY RATING: 4/5

Lifestyle: Petronas Primax 95 Xtra

Dear All,

Welcome back to yet another edition of Fuel review. In my previous posts, I've introduced the BHPetrol Infinity Advanced 2X and now it's my great pleasure to inform to you all that we have a new fuel in town that was out like 1 month plus back. The latest innovation from this giant oil company in Malaysia has shown that they would like to stay competitive in the oil & gas business as well.

Introducing the new fuel from Petronas and it's called Petronas Primax 95 Xtra. This latest so-called "Mystery Fuel" had a lot of talking points recently as many people has said that it could be a marketing gimmick and it's only the change of name (rebranding) and the fuel performance remain the same. It also claims that it has a synthetic detergent that can help to cleanses the engine to reduce internal friction for better efficiency to deliver a smooth top-tier performance driving experience. The efficiency enhancement achieved translates into more kilometers travel for every liter of fuel used.

Now, we shall stop talking about these rumours and we shall start trying the petrol. It's easy to said without trying it and you would never know who's right and who's wrong. I have tried this petrol since 3 weeks back and it had been my 3rd tank filling up this new fuel and the results are absolutely satisfying. The engine is much more quieter and smoother and it definitely gives me more kilometers. Last time when I pump BHPetrol, it gives me about 10.5 to 11.0 litre per 100KM but now with the Petronas Primax 95 Xtra, it gives me about 8.5 to 10.0 litre per 100KM and it looks pretty good to me. I am driving a 1.3L Proton Saga (Auto) BLM car. Futhermore, with BHPetrol, the engine sounds rougher and now with this new fuel, it sounds pretty much quieter and it has almost have the same feel as the 97 product but not quite at that level just yet.

I was amazed by the product of Petronas new fuel and I vowed to try in another fuel tanks to decide whether I changed my mind or not. If I did not update this post, it means that I am satisfy with their performance after more tanks filled with Primax 95 Xtra and if not , I will update you guys again in my blog to inform that the performance had dropped and so on. Guys & Girls, I would recommend you to try out this fuel as it gives your excellent performance on your car and you can feel the difference. Once you floor your pedal lightly, you already can feel the difference and you car can fell like it's already going and the pickup is much more better than other fuels (RON95 only) so far in the market. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5

*Note: This comparison only apply to RON95 fuel only and not related at all to RON97 fuel.

Power rates up 7pc June 1, gas prices also hiked

May 30, 2011

PUTRAJAYA, May 30 — The Najib administration announced today it will raise electricity prices by an average 7.12 per cent from June 1 in an effort to trim its burgeoning subsidy bill, but promised the hike will not affect some 75 per cent of domestic consumers.

Officials said natural gas prices would also rise by RM3.00 per mmBtu each six months until it reached market levels, according to a report by the Reuters news agency. The government said it will still spend some RM25 billion to subsidise the gas bill this year.

Power prices will now rise by as much as 2.3 sen per kilowatt hour.

The price charged by state oil company Petronas for power generation will also climb to RM13.70 per mmBtu from RM10.70, government officials said.

Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin today said the 7.12 per cent increase in electricity tariffs was due to the rise in natural gas prices.

Industrial and commercial consumers will experience an average increase of 8.35 per cent in their power bills.

However, domestic consumers with a monthly consumption up to 200kWh (lifeline band), along with the next 100kWh (300kWh total), will not be affected by the tariff increase.

Domestic consumers in the 301 to 1000 kWh per month band will experience a “minimal” electricity bill increase, from RM0.07 to RM30.30.

“The lifeline band is maintained at 200kWh/month... around 3.3 million households will continue to enjoy the subsidised unit rate of 21.8 sen/kWh, and encompasses 200,000 poor households,” said Chin.

The increase will not affect 75 per cent of domestic users, he added, sparing around 44.4 million from a total 59.4 million households.

Chin also said the waiving of electricity bills for domestic users who record less than RM20 per month would cease this coming December. The government is currently spending RM122 million to provide free electricity to 900,000 users in this category.

A 10 per cent discount from the standard tariff price will be given to educational institutions which are partially funded by the government.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yackop said that despite the increase in gas prices, the government would still be spending an estimated worth of RM25.64 billion on gas subsidies alone this year.

He told reporters that the gas price increase is expected to cause an inflation level of 0.27 per cent this year.

“This decision is consistent with the government’s efforts in reducing subsidies in stages until it reaches a market price level,” said Nor Mohamed. Source: The Malaysian Insider 30/5/2011
