Travel: Kinta Riverfront Walk, Ipoh

Welcome back to yet another edition of travel and today I am going to bring you over to the hearts of Ipoh City where lies a new landmark and a new location for tourist spots. Introducing a new hotel, Kinta Riverfront Hotel and in front of the hotel lies the Mini I-City of Ipoh which called the Kinta Riverfront Walk in Ipoh. This place is packed especially during weekends and many people throng the Riverfront Walk. What is installed at the Riverfront Walk? There's not only some beautiful LED lights on the trees (Just like I-City in Shah Alam), this Riverwalk also have some beautiful restaurant that faces the Ipoh river and frankly speaking, the river is not smelly and it's a good place to visit. Majority of the Ipoh people have a new spot to hang on as Kinta Riverfront is a great spot to visit too with it's superior night LED lights on the trees and real trees too.

I am very amazed by the beautiful LED lights at the Kinta Riverfront and I would not expect Ipoh would have such a beautiful place. Bravo to the Ipoh State Government who have developed this place as the new tourist spot. Oh ya! This place was opened to public before Christmas 2012. Also there are 2 beautiful lit LED lights bridge and visitors are allowed to walk across the river and head towards another side where there lies a mini Palong Tin Mining Gallery and a pathway for visitors walking as well and there are several restaurant lies there as well. If you are hungry, you will have lots of choices of food over there ranging from Chinese to Western Food.

 

If you would like to find a hotel to stay, Kinta Waterfront Hotel is the best place to stay as this hotel is just opposite this tourist spot and it's within walking distance. If you stay at other hotel, do point your GPS to this area and do also take note that the parking is limited outside and you are advised to park inside the hotel and walk opposite this Kinta Riverfront Walk. Parking is free if you park outside. A great place to hang out especially at night with beautiful LED lights and I would strongly recommend you to come over here for at least a photo shoot and you will simply love the scenery of this riverfront view. Normally, Valentine's Day is a day where couples meet up together and they will preferrably celebrated it during dinner time where they will normally dine in restaurants. But some prefer to dine at home where they will have candlelight dinner as well. Then the male will normally buy presents for their love ones including a bunch of flowers, a box of chocolates etc. Some say, during Valentine's Day, it a day to have sex together to strengthen the relationship. It vary and depends on the individuals.

For those who are single, you still can date your friends out for dinner as well. You may date your female or male friends where they don't have any programme or don't have any partners to go out for dinner. You won't know that you might end out with something pretty special after the outings. :) So why not give it a try yeah?

Beware that during Valentine's Day, the price will go up especially for dine in and for flowers. The prices will go up at least double of what you pay and you better be prepared for yourself. I mean you may save more money first before the day arrives whereby you must spend unless you have dine in at home. Enjoy yourself during your Valentine's Day.

Gadget Review: Mipow Power Tube 4000

Welcome back to yet another edition of Gadget Review and this topic is something new that have been introduced on alexleow-kimmy.com. Besides the review of Food, Travel & News, Gadget Review is one of the new topic that will enhance your knowledge in getting the specific products of your choice. It will not be a comprehensive review but at least some tips, do or don't whether to buy this products or not and in the same time the recommendations as well.

This time around, I will be introducing the Mipow Power Tube 4000. What is power tube? Now in this modern world, smartphone or tablets had eventually outclassed the older model of phone or laptop devices and as you can see, the more advance technology we have, the more power it will consume and that is why the power tube is created to ensure that you can charge you phone or tablet on the go without needing to find a power socket to plug it into. Since I am using this Mipow Power Tube 4000, I will be introducing this product to you and I hope it will benefit you.

There's different types of Power Tube from Mipow ranging from different storage of power such at 2200mah, 2600mah, 3000mah, 4000mah until 5500mah. On top of that, there are many colours to choose from depending on your favourite colour as well such as Red, Blue,Black, White, Grey, Pink, Gold and so on. Of course the more power can be stored, the more expensive it will be. This time around I will be introducing the 4000mah where you can eventually charge 2 times of your iPhone from 0% to 100% (rough estimation). For tablet like iPad it can only charge 1 time because iPad consumes more power. This is a great product as this power tube is very light and eventually easy to carry everywhere and you can even put into your bag with little space used. It's just like a candy bar (same size like Mentos candy). You can charge up to 500 times in a single charge from 0% to 100%. There are various colours to determine the status or level of the battery. Blue indicates that your battery level is between 80% to 100%, Green Indicates 40% to 79% while Orange indicates from 20% to 39%. The red level indicates from 0% to 19% and it will flash when it turns nearly to 0%. Once the power tube has finish the storage, it will turned off and no more colour.

The price of this product is quite expensive but I found out that the quality of this product is superb and nice. It costs around RM130 - RM170 depending on your power range. I would strongly recommend you to get this power tube as I found it very reliable and it's value for money too. Do not worry about power leakage as this is a brand that was certified by Apple and you can get it at your nearest Apple Stores or Authorize Dealers as well near you. Enjoy! MY RATING: 5/5

Gadget Review: Apple iPad Mini

My Review: This is one of the best iPad device that I've ever used before and I would say that it suits my daily needs. This iPad is not too big nor too small and with the 7.9 inches (physical size), it's one of the best device that I've used it before. Many had been saying about its non existence of the Retina Display but for me it's just nothing. Retina or not, it just not in my requirements and I am happy user of the iPad mini. If you ever owned an Apple products before especially the iPhone or iPod, the interface is just as same as it is before and just only some of the features which is different (also depending on the iOS version). What I like about this iPad mini is because of its size and some of the fantastic features on this iPad mini. What impress me is actually the fast WiFi where I am able to surf the web or stream videos faster and in the same time this device have the LTE (Long Term Evolution) connection for Cellular. The size also obviously smaller than the previous iPad. The specs is almost similar to the iPad 2 but it has an improved camera (5 megapixels) and WiFi. The camera has a Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), Auto focus, Touch to focus, Digital image stabilization and Geo tagging. Many had said that the downside of this device is actually the Retina Display which they only use the normal IPS LCD function only. It really depends on your needs but as I said earlier, I felt that the screen is now good although is a IPS LCD and it's good enough.

I have been using iPhone 4 together with the iPad mini and it's a great combination especially when you're on the go and it's really convenient to carry and the iPad mini is not heavy though. If you plan buy a new iPad for yourself, I would strongly recommend you to take the new iPad mini as it has all the features it has for other iPad series and it's very light and easy to carry. For those with existing iPad, you may opt to take this iPad mini as the previous iPad is quite heavy and it's not so convenient to bring around. A lovely gadget for iPad beginners and those who love on the go. My recommendation on the iPad Mini casing would be a brand from Mocran where the casing is nice and trendy looking as well. Gong Xi Fa Cai and Happy Chinese New Year to you and your family as well. Today we had a big gathering at the 2nd day of Chinese New Year as we together as a big family to have a huge 2 table dinner at Kok Thai Restaurant located at Ipoh Garden East. Eventually during Chinese New Year, we ordered the set package and we have chosen the set of RM580.00 per table which consists of 8 dishes including the famous Yee Sang, Shark Fin Soup, Mushroom with Broccoli, Crispy Roasted Chicken, Steamed Fish, Prawn, Fried Rice and a mini Ice-Cream Potong in the lists as well.

It does not take very long for the dishes to come despite a huge crowd that throng the restaurant and it was very packed indeed. You need to at least book 1 week in advance if you want to have your lunch or dinner there depending on availability. After 10 minutes, the food beginning to come at our tables and we starting to enjoy our food. How's the taste of the food? Here I come to explain to you. The Prosperity Yee Sang is nice and tasty. It has lots of ingredients and since this is my first yee sang meal of the year, i would say this is good. The Shark Fin Soup is also tasty despite I ate a lot of starch and not so much of shark fin soup. It's also well known that we should not have killed the shark fin and hopefully they use less shark fins in the soup.

The Mushroom With Broccoli is just so so and not so tasty. The Crispy Roasted Chicken is just normal and nothing so special about it. You have to eat together with the salt to satisfy your cravings. The steamed fish is nice indeed and it claimed that it's a expensive fish. The meat is fresh and nice too. We enjoyed the fish personally and felt it's not smelly too. The Prawn taste is just so-so and it's fresh. The way they cook is not so superior and just normal. The Fried Rice is a must try at the Chinese New Year set dish. It contains some small abalone pieces and once you eat it together with the Fried Rice, it's very tasty. Last but not least is the Ice-Cream Potong which in my opinion is a superb dish after you have the set meal and it's usually comes last. The taste is good and it's very special about it. You should try it. The brand is Kochabi.

Overall, the portion of the set meal is good and can cater around 8-10 people. Some of the dishes are good and some are just so-so and not up to my expectation, With the price of RM580, I would say you get what you pay for and it's reasonable and not too expensive especially during the festive season. Festival: Happy Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai (恭喜发财)

Season Greetings yet again from alexleow-kimmy.com and this time the whole Chinese community would celebrate the year of the Snake in bizzare fashion. I & Kimmy would like to take this golden opportunity to wish all the Tionghua community a Happy Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai (恭喜发财), Wan Shi Ru Yi (万事如意) & Zhu Li Meng En (主里蒙恩)！

Chinese New Year is celebrated in mostly Asian country including Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries as well. In Malaysia, Chinese New Year was celebrated in a joyous and wonderful mood. On the eve of the Chinese New Year, family will get together to enjoy the reunion dinner which symbolizes harmony, peace and gathering. Besides that, the Chinese Community would hang tanglung, 'ong lai' (pineapple), flowers as their decorations at their homes which symbolizes good luck and prosperity.

Childen will be the happiest among all during Chinese New Year because they will get an angpow for the eldest who have already get married. Besides, those who haven't get married will get an angpow too. Cookies and other drinks will be served during Chinese New Year as it marks the new year celebration in a bang! The most famous dishes among the Chinese during the Lunar New Year is 'Yee Sang' or 'Lou Sang'. This is a raw fish filled with different vegetable mince where we get to mixed together which symbolizes everything is good throughout the new year (see pics).

Here is my personal message whereby if you are travelling on the road, please drive carefully and stay focus on the road. Don't drink and drive too. Drive slowly and don't rush yourself because your family is waiting for you at home wanting you to return home safely. Enjoy yourself during this festive season and remember to drink more water to keep yourself healthy on a hot chinese new year. Happy Reunion Dinner and Happy Snake Year to all of you. Hello All,

Upon arrival of the Year Of Snake, today is the day to gather together as a family to enjoy our Reunion Dinner before we usher the first day Of Chinese New Year. Reunion Dinner is the most important event for all of us to be remembered no matter where you are because it's symbolizes the traditional event where no matter what, we have to gather together to eat, laugh and enjoy to show respect to everyone in our family.

There are many ways of preparing the Reunion Dinner. The normal and traditional way of preparing is of course preparing a lot of dishes like Fish, Prawns, Meat, Pork but some would prefer Steamboat style. For ME, I am going for steamboat this year again like previous 2 years. My mom will usually cook the traditional way in previous years but these 3 years, it had been different.

No matter what you eat, it's still the reunion dinner that should not be missed.
